Willing to bet its not a v4. I cut my muffler off as far after the cat as I could so right up to muffler then put a turn down on it. Its loud. Not super clean sound but definatly deep for a 4 banger. I will put a flowmaster 40 series on with duals out.. just not yet havent finished rear suspension dont know where its gonna go
My advice would be to go to a muffler shop or larger parts store and buy yourself some weld-on exhaust flanges. Cut off the muffler and weld on one of the flanges to each side of the tail pipe. Now when you want to try different mufflers, you just weld the opposite flange to the ends and they bolt right up. You can even make a straight pipe for that open exhaust sound. But the best part is, if you have to take a trip, you can quickly go back to a stock exhaust to eliminate the headaches from a droning, loud exhaust. Just my two cents. hope it helps
flow master are crap but not all of them I like the hush power mufflers and dbx ones all the rest can be melted down and used for scrap
oh ya 40 on a stock ish 22re sounds like it's mooing down the road like a cow my buddies auto was nick named the cow
u running a header or stock manifold? -makes a difference too. i got me an LCE street header, removed cat, 3in pipe to a Hooker MaxFlo to a turndown. boom
I cut mine off for now.. ull be happy . If not a cheapo ebay muffler. I had good luck with a oreillys off the shelf magnaflow on my 99 taco 2.4l
My partner has a autozone thrush turbo muffler like those 30 dollars ones sounds reall good stock piping and manifold 22r . Deep and pops a little on down shifts
sounds good. not crazy loud but noticeable at higher rpms. nice n low rumbly hum at idle. some decent power gains mid-high rpm range. def noticed more power than stock, even with just a new muffler. go big or go home! lol it seems to flow better. (n yes i understand principle of "backpressure") -but got this done now cuz gonna install new ported n upgraded cyl head.
I also use the Hooker Maxflo.I think I got 2 1/4 pipe back there.Headman shortstacks no caddi. At idle its pretty quiet and sounds pretty good when you blow it nothing crazy though.
Since 2009 or so I've been using a pacesetter: 86-95 Toyota P.U., All W.B., TFX Performance Exhaust System I am happy with it, It's reasonably well made (much better quality than stock), fits without any modifcations and the chrome tip looks quite nice and is not a screw on thing, for a change. The sound is like a low rumbling at idle (if you try very hard you can imagiine a V8 in there ;-) and doesn't become very loud, probably just a tad louder than the stock exhaust. It just has more low tones, whether idling or driving at highway speeds. Ah yes it does funny pops when coasting downhill in lower gears, for that all important performance feel... It adds a few HP, I think, hey that's enough, as long as you think it's better. One minor issue I found on the longbed I have is that the tip may rattle against either the shackle or leaf spring "retainer" (if that is the right term). You can fix that by grabbing the tip and bending it towards the front of the car. You may have to do it a few times, it will bend the metal hanger a bit so it fits better.
I have a pacesetter header. 4 into 1. 2.5 collector, 1-5/8 primaries. 2.5" from the collector back to a chambered muffler. Was a local small muffler company, I got it at the local speed shop. Cci or something. $60. Sounds about the same as when I had a Flotech Afterburner chambered muffler. Both are about 18-20" case length. After the muffler it turns and goes out the front of the leaf spring gap behind the hanger and out in front of the tire. Sounds great. Really throaty without a tinny sound. Slightly popping on hard dec at high rev but letting off under 3500 it doesn't pop. I will have some videos posted in a day or two on here or my build page.
