Okay one more thread for the day... I put in a stereo recently and it works fine.... or it did. Out of the blue it started acting up.... turn it on, and it cuts out/looses power(?) for a second then comes right back on but with the volume reset. For a while it was loosing clock and settings also, so I checked the ignition and ground and 12V wires, everything looks good there, so im stumped!
Sounds like a bad connection at the 12V Power (yellow wire) or the 12V memory(red wire). Pull the deck out and check the splices on the back of the CD Deck. Look closely at the red and yellow wires as they provide power to the system. Also is the deck wired right into the truck? Or is it wired to a connector then plugged into the stock truck connector? Cause if it is hardwired to the truck the wires could have been crossed. Let me know!
the deck has a harness, the harness is spliced into the truck wires, i will check the wires again, but im pretty sure they are all tight... it only happens at first when i turn the deck on, then it stops after a few times.
well this was my problem, get in your truck, and turn the stereo on and mess with your e-brake.. sometimes the wires get stuck on the notches on the top of the ebrake and cut the wires and mess with it in all sorts of ways...
Oh i almost forgot! Check to make sure the Deck has a good solid ground. That will give issues too! That will be the black wire.
another thing that you may want to check out is that on most aftermarket radios now have a protection circuit in them and if you have a bad speaker somewhere it will shut itself down.
Ide like to add - Dont trust the factory harness grounding wire, most if not all professional installers recommend to secure a new ground and bypassing the stock one. Im betting your problem will be in your ground. With a upgraded stereo, I would #1 - Run a seperate ground / not use the stock harness one #2 - Use a NEW 12V constant power wire from the battery or fuseblock itself #3 always/always solder - shrink tube - and secure you wires from chaffing and fuse them properly with 12" of the battery. . . Keep us posted please ! Goodluck !
checked everything out. Still no answers, although the part about the deck shutting down from bad speaker is interesting.... Im gonna check my speakers out. Although I put a 12V charger in the truck last week to replace the broken cig lighter, and now the deck is loosing power less often.
Im just really happy you got her fixed man thats kewl! Im sure glad we could all gather ideas and remedy the situtaion, hopefully more will learn with us . . .
lownloud, your tip was the answer. thank you for your help.. it appears that the brown toyota ground didnt make a good connection... i bypassed straight the the negative post and now all is good. even plugged in my ipod while it was all torn apart thanks again
