Im in a little hurry and my search did not prevale. I drive an 88 22r base model standard cab and found someone who has a 5speed out of unknown year came off of 22re 2wd. Its a 100 bucks with money back garentee but before I put forth the effort what do I need to check to see if it will fit. Hes not sure of tranny code but is looking now. Trans mount? Shifter? Clutch\slave/throughout? Anything I need to modify. Your advice and help is greatly appreciated on this topic im positive has been covered many times I just cant find my senario at the moment. Thank you TM
You are going to need the mounting plate and the 5 speed drive shaft.Other then that everything else same same.
i think u might have to cut out/modify the shifter hole in the floor -make it bigger. we had to do that on my buddy's 87 - had original 4spd, convert to 5 spd also. but its a minor issue. just get a pair of strong durable tin snips n cut away
Im in olympia washington. And thanks for the info. And he doesnt have mounting plate or driveshaft.. oh well ill wait till I find it all together. No freeway in my daily anyways. Plus buying it would set back my schedualed notch this weekend. But good to know! Now I know what im after
Right. I think I have that drive shaft ('86 22R 2WD, Standard Cab, Standard Bed, W55) but you're a long way from here.
Well ur down east apparently and im up north so id say yea ill keep my eyes open at the wreckers. But thanks a bunch for the offer
if you have a 1piece d-shaft on the truck you can use that. on my swap all i had was 5spd trans. the shifter from the 4spd, the 4spd d-shaft, and a custom trans mount its easy i used two pieces of angle iron to extend the 4spd mount. i forget if i made the hole bigger. also the reverse light switch wiring might be diff but its only two wores.
Thank you. I do have the one peice ds. I will call him up and go get it! Is the shifter as easy to swap as it seems?
yup, really easy its just 4 10mm head bolts and the shifter retainer plate comes out along with the stick. but besure to change both bushings when replacing. when i have the chance i can snap some pics of the mount i made. but other than that its really easy.
Awsome man uve been a considerable amount of help! I think my headgaskets starting to go so 5speed may be on back burner but id def. Like to see ur pics and a discription of why the custom plate. Such as how does the 5speed mount differ from the 4. Thank you.
no problem, to be honest i think of myself as a noob compared to some other guys on here. Im currently off island so when i head back ill try to document as much as i can.
