So Im having some issues finding some info on the 1UZ-FE motor. I was looking into motor swaps and like that idea of V8 engines but would mind staying Toyota. I know people do 7M swaps and what not but does anyone know much about the 1UZ? I know they come in the Lexus SC400 and so far it only seems they come in an AUTO tranny. I would love to know more about it and possible 5spd tranny options. Any help would be awesome.
Well its been done before in this 86 Pickup. 1986 Toyota Pickup Truck 1uz-fe Manual Swap Quantum-Auto - YouTube
Yup, quantum auto has the bellhousing adapters. You'll need the early 1UZ auto bellhousing for the adapter. aside from that, LS400, SC400, GS400.
Quantum has a questionable reputation for customer service (like shipping when promised, answering emails from customers inquiring about their order). Good vendors for the 5speed conversion hardware are at Toyotav8.com, daft innovations, and Xcessive manufacturing. Ecu has no problem with missing auto trans. Doesn't affect performance of motor in a negative way. However, the ecu has a speed governor that limits top speed at 157 mph. It uses the speed sensors from the auto trans to monitor and limit the speed. Since the sensors will not be used on the 5 speed swap, the ecu will not know the speed. Top speed will not be governed. The limit will be the rev limit in top gear. Best generation 1uz to get is 89 to 94. They are obd1, no immobilizer, thickest rods of all generations and non interference design.
Yea I saw toyotaV8.com as well. Whats the difference between the obd1 and obd2? And I surely hope my truck would not do 157mph. The thing would take flight
a bunch of sensors you wont need. plus like he said, it will have the immobilizer in which you may need the key cylinder and key from the donor car. or find someway to disable it.
You are good with 94 and earlier. They are the easiest to wire. They are OBD1 systems that are less picky and throw less trouble codes 1996-1998 have and immobilzer that can be beat with some wiring tricks. They are OBD2, more advanced and sensitive, throw more codes. 1999 and up are the 300hp VVT-i models which have a immobilizer feature that uses chipped ignition keys. No tricks to get around it. You would have to swap the entire ignition switch/system from the donor car.
Whats up the the VVT-i motors. I havent done any research into them at all but have heard they are good motors. And if I had to swap over the ignition system I could. But yes the pre 95 motors would be alot easier to install.
does any one make motor mount kit cause if i do do this swap I wana do it rather quickly in stead of building a pair
So far I haven't found any for our 2wd. They do for 4wd but I'm assuming they are different? Is that a correct statement?
they should be the same really but the 4x4 frame is a tad different so I am not sure i know the spaceing is the same but the 4x4 has 3 inc frame were as the 2wd has a 2 inc so hight may be different all take a look tommrow since I have both all cheak my wheeler tomorrow
What did you find out? I just found this crazy awesome site for the wiring up part. So freaking helpful. How to Wire up a 1UZ engine (VVTI and non-VVTI) - Tech Talk - oldschool.co.nz
