Hey TMers got a question for ya.

Who has a v6 89-94 toy? Ive been looking for a 89-94 ext cab 4bannger but they are very hard to find. I see alot of 89-94 ext cab v6 but im not sure on the engine quality. So i want to hear so pros for it and the cons for it? Or should i just keep looking for the 4bannger?

    Thanks guys:headbang:

I herd the hg's tend to go out due to the restrictive exhaust manifolds.
I have never actually owned one tho. I want a ext cab as well, lol welcome to my boat, haha

But as long you use the updated torque specs and take care of your truck, the V6 has no problems.

Head torque was spec'd too low and the insanely stupid design of the exhaust crossover tube that is shoehorned between the back of the heads and the firewall dumping the passenger banks exhaust into the driver side at a 90* angle causing cylinder #5 to overheat and blow the head gasket. Repeatedly.

Every single system on the engine is badly designed and is a pain to work on even on an engine stand. I have worked on engines that I didn't like before but the 3.0 toyota engine is the only one that made me wish the engineering team that designed the engine dies in a fire.

The single plus to a 3.0 is that WHEN not if the engine leaves you walking a 3.4 is a direct bolt in and just needs a bit of wiring to run.

    Like everyone says
    3.0 headgaskets blow repeatedly
Even today at the dealership I work at we get a good amount coming in
Coworker picked one up for 700 with a blown headgasket (ext cab) and rebuilt it
    Says he loves it

I have a 91 ext cab 22re and the only issue I've had is my tranny leaking
Not bad for a truck with 287xxx miles :D

even with all of that, its not even close to a direct bolt in.
you would also need the 4cly trans and drive shaft. plus the engine mounts on the frame are in different spots. and then being in cali, you have to deal with the smog BS. that alone makes it not worth the trouble.

I have the v6 extra cab sr5, they tend to alway leak oil. My Head Gaskets were replaced a tear ago when my uncle have the tranny redone and it leaking again already. They are known for this problem. But I have to say other than that I haven't had any problems with her at all. I actually wanted the 22r but I'm glad I got the 3.0. I can haul stuff or tow with it no problem, not saying the 22r couldn't handle it ( we all know they are beasts) but I wouldn't change my mind on the v6.

I hate those V6's. i did one at work and that SOB blew the headgasket again like 6 months later and I had to do it again for free this time. I swore never again. They are not the hardest head to do but damn do they suck.

They have newly design ( new being designed like in 96 or something ) and revised head bolt torq but even then they still blow the gasket. They may have more torq then the 22r but they feel like the biggest dogs ever. Stay away from that motor if possible.

I wouldn't mine getting another V6 I had a V-6 in my baja Toyota and it was freaking fast as hell and it ran forever it had 270,000 miles on it. But it only got 19 mpg. And my 22re gets 29 mpg.
Befor I got mine truck I was look for the single cab short bed 1ton. Cus it has the v6 and the sway bars front and rear. Just need to change the axel gear and it would be fast.
