Hey there. Name is Cary I have been a Toyota guys for over 30 years. I have mainly been in the Celica world but last year I ventured into the Hilux world. I have a 72 Celica thats Tubbed with a 1J in it thats a nice street track car and some show to it as well. This Hilux is a project to take me away from tinkering on the Celica so I can finalize and finish it and then enjoy it. Its now painted and going back toghther for the last time. So on to the Hilux. I will start a thread later on it but the basics are this. Its a 74 RN22 that had 62xxx on the clock and was almost entirely original when I got it. But I wanted more Power and better handling so I grabbed a SC400 and grabbed the entire drivetrain and suspention out of it and the project started. I did all the math and started by taking the truck down to the frame and stripping the entire stock suspention and drive train. The frame was cut along with the body from bumper to bumper and 15 inches was added to the middle of the truck. New frame sections were fabbed to catch all the suspention points of the SC400 stuff front and rear. The firewall was cut to allow the engine to come back 6 inches. And the assembly was all put back on the frame. I still have a buch of work to do I have only worked on the project about 10 days so far over the last year. But its a roller at this point. I will post pictures and stuff soon. I am at work and cant see anything in Photobucket from here. oh I also converted this to a rhd setup along with the power steering and ac setup from the sc it will be a nice ride. Oh its also been converted to a R154 5 speed too.
Man that's crazy wide track yota that's gonna be one serious truck when finished and only ten days of work that's a hell of a start
Welcome, Cary! I've also been a Toyota guy for over 30 years. I got my SR5 brand new in my Jr year in HS. I also like the RA29 & RT134 cars. One of these days, I'll have one in my collection. Enjoy the site! Rick
Thanks Guys. Here are a couple of the Celica from Torc 2011. Its painted now but no new pictures completed.
Drool!!! So can u pull the front wheels being tubbed on slicks ? That thing and handful down the quarter ?
Its on Drag Radials not slicks. Its actually super fun and easy to drive on the street. Have not spent much time at the track as of yet. Just one shake down set of runs to make sure it all went straight. It did. Now after its back in one piece since it is painted it will be fully tuned for the E85 and the 72mm turbo its now running and we will see what happens at the track. But its mainly a street car not a track car. Here it is rolling in LA on the way to Torc that same year. http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBrXBkohVaQ
