So I stuck the new carb on today. Its still dumping fuel and running like ****. It still sputers a little bit, and it won't idle at all now. I got out the manual and retraced all 38 vacuum lines to make sure they were correct. Everything is where it should be. I really don't know what to do at this point. It was running awesome at Danger Zone. Now it runs like ******* again. It was much worse with the old carb, but its still not passable. And to make things worse, my extension is up in 5 days and I don't know if I can get a 4th one..

Have you checked for vacuum leaks?

Sure sounds like a vacumn leak because if its as rich as you say it is its getting to much fuel and may be pulling fuel from the bowl.

i helped out a Friend who raced dirt track latemodels and his engine was so rich and we jetted and re-jetted the carburetor and it was still rich so we used another freinds set of stethoscopes and we used them to find the intake to be leaking as it was cracked at the carb mounting flange.

I would check for an intake leak.

You also might try running the hottest plug you can find for it and use a 195 degree thermostat to get the engine temp up higher so it will burn the waisted fuel.

Something to also check is the timing. A retarded timing will make an engine fat or as everyone else reefers to as rich.

Can you re-jet the carb? If so that may be your only resort.

    Hope this helps you out.

Might have to title it in another state if all else fails because screw the dam# tree huggers because you have to much time and money invested in your truck for the state/government to take it away.

The corners are stock replacements. They come clear from the factory. They just looked yellow when I got them because they were so faded.

Dropped it off at a shop today. Took it to the only person I would ever let work on my truck. Good family friend I've known so long I don't remember meeting him. Got a bunch of **** for not having a lifted truck. I'm actually kind of excited.

Does the Cali plate mean that you passed the smog machine? I hope it does.

Hey, I am curious with all the great work you have done what you have planned for a bed set up on that rig? I have a silly idea of running bedsides and a tailgate and then when you show the rig take them off like a offroad desert truck that way folks can see your frame work and fab skills. One cool thing is that if you bought fiberglass ones they would be very easy to take on and off.

Your rig just has the perfect look for something different in the minitruck field give it some thought.

As for the bed, I've got some ideas. I'm not set on any one thing yet.

Put a new output shaft seal in the transmission. I think after having the driveshaft hump it a few times it started to leak. Plus it was 30 years old. Also put a K&N in it since I found out when I smogged it, my generic filter was really limiting performance. And I was actually surprised by a noticeable difference.

I stopped by the bank on the way home from work and laid it out at an angle next to a big ass tow truck. Now I regret not taking the picture because it looked awesome.

What rpm does your truck have at 55 mph? Did you change your diff gears? My truck is at 3,000 rpm at 55. Any way, you are my hero for bagging and body dropping an old skool toyota. Did you use your stock spindles or did you buy some aftermarket drop spindles?
