Well I decided to start a build thread (I'll update this tonight) Here's some pics from my 2/2 drop I just finished. Sits 1/2" higher in the rear and with no one in it 1" higher on the drivers side, as soon as someone sits in it it's dead even though so . Anyways it was done with 2" blocks and 2" chassis tech spindles. Here's some crappy pics lol
thanks guys not really sure where to go from here since I want a really good handling truck I don't want to mess with the torsion bars so I might look into some custom 2" lowering control arms or something
Well I haven't updated this in forever sooooooooooo........ here's some no pic (I know you pic whores' ) update..... Installed a supra afm/true cold air intake Installed some 4runner buckets Installed a 8" bass tube and that's about it recently Quitting my job to just focus on school so this winter the truck will be getting major work done in december: Finish interior (will basically be a very clean/mint stock setup with a little fiberglass centerconsole/bass tube thing) Body work/Paint (hopefully) Ball joint flip 2" wheel spacers New shocks Cut bump stops Hopefully design/build a front and rear sway bar (I'm a engineering student with access to a mandrel bender, 3d modeling, etc) Build a metal tonneau cover Fix timing cover gasket leak Clean up the motor, chassis, etc. Spray bed liner Move battery from in the bed to under the bed Install battery cutoff switch Officially retire the truck from hauling anything
Instead of a ball joint flip or lowering control arms, have you considered drop spindles? They might run a little more money but well worth it cause you maintain most of your ride.
I have 2" drop spindles lol just want 1" more.....b.j. flip seems to be the best option vs. torsion bar adjustment....
Looks like somebody needs to read the posts BEFORE they reply to it. I'm just messing with you, but what's with talking smack about the ball joint flip? Don't ever say an unkind word about the ball joint flip! I agree about the ball joint flip being a great option. It will not have adverse effects on your suspension or handling characteristics at all to unbolt the ball joint from its stock location on the lower control arm and bolt it on the top.
yea yea yea.... I noticed I need to read a little better. Wasn't really talking smack, I've just heard horror stories about things breaking on ball joint flips and mono leafing the rear. But I've never seen anything in person so I'm going on hearsay.
I've read some crap about the ball joint flip thing too but fact of the matter is the bolts on the ball joint are all that hold everything toghether now and the forces will not be acting much different or in a increased magnitude by moving them on top of the control arm. No one seems to have any proof of breakage just b.s. theories (show me if I'm wrong). Mono leafing on the other hand I could understand running into some strengths issues on which is why I will not be doing that.
Yeah, I don't doubt that you won't have issues. Thats why I said I'm going on hearsay. I was thinking of just cranking the torsions to get another inch on mine, and 4" blocks.
I seriously believe those stories are based entirely on some people having misunderstood how the ball joint flip works. It is entirely safe. Plus it has no negative effects on the ride or suspension geometry. I believe Bernie is right when he says that if you only flip the lower it gains a small amount of positive camber, but it is only a degree or less. If you flip them both like you did there is no negative effects.
looks good, rubs on crap though when going over a decent bump especially while turning so I'll have to look into that.....
How much of drop do you have now? I did a 2/3 drop with spindles and blocks and am lookin to go down a little more. Was thinkin another inch with 4" blocks and crank torsions.
Hey Dave, apparently you missed what I was saying. You need to flip your ball joints if you want to go a little lower. Cranking the torsions has definite negative effects on suspension performance (not that you shouldn't do that too anyway). Flipping your ball joints has none.
