Hello everybody. My name is John. I got this truck and im thinking about giving it some life again. I know little about trucks so im hoping by the help of this site I can bet most the challenges. I want to lower it but not use bags. I need some help in height. Maybe a 2/3. Just not sure what that looks like. Just enough where it does a little tuck of the wheel. My color scheme is going to be blue on orange. Interior color is still up in the air. Oh yea does anyone have a pdf file of the manual on a 86 Toyota? Thanks for reading. http://www.toyotaminis.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=275&stc=1&d=1231355940 http://www.toyotaminis.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=276&stc=1&d=1231356187 http://www.toyotaminis.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=277&stc=1&d=1231356262
welcome to the site man. she looks a little tired there but, i can already hear it screaming potential from here. by "SD" did you mean San Diego per chance? if this helps...... this is what a 3/3 on stockies looks like. this was my truck when i first dropped it.
Welcome to Toyotaminis! If you got questions this is the place to get them answered! Cant wait to see the stuff planned for your truck too!
Welcome! I will be doing a 2/3 to my truck here on Monday, that or next weekend. But once im done i will post up pics. And if u have a question dont hesitate to ask!
Ron Burgundy "Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diago, which of course in German means a whale's vagina." Hey Frinzo I look forward to seeing your drop. Yea SD YOTA I live in Mira Mesa, what town are you located? The 3/3 look real good. Is it level front to rear?
Welcoem to toyotaminis, boy sure seems like the numbers around here are increasing alote lately and Im glad to see yet another new member joining the ranks . . .
Im in Chula Vista, so im not too far from where yer at. with the 3/3 drop i was sitting with a little bit of rake towards the front... i think it may have sit about 1/2 inch to 1 inch higher in the rear...... but that was the look i was going for. here's what she currently looks like, dont mind the scatter brain color scheme 7/6 drop.
here's how i have mine set up... Front: - 2" belltech spindles **bought em used for $150** - 3" DJM drop arms ** i bought these new from Summitracing.com $207 shipped** - 1" ball joint flip ((you mount the lower and upper ball joints to the top of the arms and you gain 1" drop) **FREEEEEBIEEE** - 1" dropped by cranking down the torsion bars **FREEEEEBIEEE** Rear: - 3" belltech drop leafs **bought used for $100** - 3" lowering blocks made by Beefed Taco (( known fabricator, better known in customtacos.com forums)) ** cost me ~$40** - 8" drop notch **bought new from suicidedoors.com for ~$50, and had Beefed taco install it..... forgot how much i paid him for that** all in all, i have roughly ~$500 into everything. i did have to have it aligned when i lowered it with the spindles, and need it aligned again since i just put on the drop arms. more than likely you can find someone on here selling a pair of spindles for cheap. the one thing you might need to purchase new are the drop arms. those are kinda rare to find someone selling used. everything else you should be able to shop around here for. its really not too hard to drop these trucks. especially the rear..... its a joke how easy it is. i swapped the springs in during the time it took me to drink a coke. the blocks i did em in about 15 minutes. if you get the spindles and drop arms at the same time and use new ball joints, it will make life 100 times easier since you unbolt the balljoints and drop everything except the caliper and unbolt the hub from the old spindle. not sure what yer budget is but there are cheaper ways of achieving this stance.... only thing is its gonna suffer ride quality. my truck still rides nice
Thanks SD Yota for all that. I caught your other thread about your process but didn't have a chance to tell you. I was catching up reading it, but I really appreciate the help. I caught somewhere that lowering it so much you might have to roll the fenders for bumps. Do you know how far a drop can be where that wouldn't be a issue at all. Another thing, my left control arm is bent. I picked up a new one ready to install and I notice that you got some new ones from summit. What;s the draw backs of keeping the originals. I don't want to pay to install the one I have if Im going to replace it later. you know what I mean. btw the budget is open I like to see high and low cost for those unexpected issues. thanks again. John
no worries. if you want, hit me up and i can see when i can cruise over and help you swap it out. its a real simple process. just need a jack and a few basic sockets and wrenches. as for drop. it all depends on the wheels. if yer gonna roll with stockies i think you can go down till the tire hits the top of the frame on the rear. i think the front you would start rubbing inner fender well at around 5 depending on the size tire you run. its all wheel choice on how far you can go down. honestly, a total drop budget at worst case will run you $700 for all new stuff. so.... $700 and under is what you might expect to pay for a seriously low drop like mine.
That would be nice. I have a couple weekdays off during each week. Maybe we can get together. What are your weeks comprised of.
right now im not quite sure where my scedule is gonna land me. gonna be starting work either tomorrow or within the next couple of days. if i am not told to go in tomorrow ill be down here working on the truck. yer more than welcome to drop on by pm me for a phone # and ill give you directions
here is a downloadable 1985 service manual, i recommend having high speed. its 50+mb and over 1000 pages in adobe. http://www.ncttora.com/fsm/1985/1985FSM.pdf
Thanks burnzya for the manual. It took awhile to download all those pages. I much appreciate it. I look forward to see your rides progress.
