I know everyone says this is supposed to be a bolt-on deal, but it simply hasn't panned out for me like that. I have 3 sets of bumper brackets, stock, 4runner and FBI conversion brackets, and not a single one of them wants to line up. The stock and 4runner are too narrow for the stock mount holes on the frame side, and the FBI conversion brackets are somewhat close to lining up but hang down about an inch too far and put the bumper at a really off angle. I really don't have the tools to do any fab work and was wondering what kind of suggestions you guys might have? TIA
yea post some pics & could you also post a pic of your fbi brackets too? ive got a set of conversion brackets from cando specialties & id like to see if they look like the ones I have. oh & is the radiator support on your truck the 2wd drive or the 4-runner one?
I'll snap some shots tomorrow, the radiator support is from the 2wd, the only thing I've changed so far is to 4wd fenders, and now my attempt at the bumper.
I have the FBI brackets behind mine, its doesnt line up very well. Then again Im one of those people that see little flaws in my truck that bug the crap out of me that other people just dont see.
Did you need to cut anything for your install? or need anything besides the FBI brackets to mount the bumper? The main problem I'm having is that the bumper side bolts that stick out of the bumper for the mounts are 4 inches closer together than the stock bumper ones, so I really don't see how people make the stock brackets, or 4runner brackets work without some basic fab skills. Don't think I'm gonna get any pics today, so this is the best I can do for the moment. 4runner problem: *||||||||||||||||||* *||||||||||||||||||* ____B________B____ ((((((((((()))))))))))) Stock: *||||||||||||||||||* *||||||||||||||||||* B________________B ((((((((((()))))))))))) || = frame * = frame side bolts B = bracket ()=bumper
Just curious are you using a original toyota bumber or a aftermarket? I just put a aftermarket on mf 95 daily and I had to open up all the hole to get it to fit(if that is what you call it) try bolting the brakets to the bumer(lose) and then bolt the brackets and bumper on as one unit then tighten all the bolts SSB
One problem I had with mine is that the way the brackets mounted 2 of the holes were being block by a part of my frame. I had to drill a little out. They dont have much for adjustment play either.
