My project got corrosion issues in the most common critical areas. Critical areas such as the fire wall. How would anyone here approach this issue? This is my next priority. Please advise your experiences and expertise is needed. Here some piks for reference.
Whoa! Well, the tailgate is easy, just replace it. The B-pillar is another world. Not hard if you have the right tools and good with a welder. I replaced mine due to a prior accident by the previous owner. I think I have pictures of it on my build. You have get all that rotten crape out of there for sure.
I agree. Cut out and replace the rot and then seal, seal, seal! Eastwood has some really good products and you can always use undercoating and bed liner (diy or pro) to help guard against future rot. Also, if your tailgate is that bad, I would take a very close look at the bottoms of your doors where the outer skin and inner frame meet. There are some holes there, I believe, to drain any water that gets into the inside of the door, but it will also get in between the two layers of metal and cause problems. If they arent rusting,I'd highly recommend coating the crack with something to seal it while leaving the drain holes open. On my Explorer I used Herculiner because it was easy and available. It worked great and I'll be using it again on the Toyota as well.
The tailgate I will replace definitely. The B-Pillar is the one thats frustrating. It makes me wanna just get a new truck but it would be rewarding to get it fixed. Thats just a little of what corrosion had been found. Now the firewall behind the fenders seems real difficult but like u said a good welder may do the job. Very much appreciate your quick responses. This is the work I did to my truck. More pictures on my build thread. I would say just find a donor and cut that bottom piece out to fix it or any thinhg else for that matter.

I've read your Steve Nielsen post. Very inspiring experinece you've had. A humble and very considerate man Steve must be. I've only heard of CanDo through a friend here and when I had looked into the site I just wanted everything. I hope the best for his success and that he continues the CanDo business. I sure plan on purchasing an air bag system from the site. On the other hand I had washed up my rims and tires after I had the air leaks fixed. the rims are second hand but would be nice as stocks. The issue is that they have this weird like marks on the chrome areas of the lip. The marks or stains can not be scrubbed easily so Im unsure how I can manage to remove them. I was thinking maybe a light sanding and some polishing would work or maybe rubbing compound just for removal and then polish? Any advice? I'll post piks tomorrow.
Sounds like you have a polished lip with a clear coat over it. It might be chrome but I doubt it. The top layer is pealing and if it is, its simple, sand and polish them. If you have a machined lip with a clear over it you can't copy that look. Unless you take it to a shop.
