personally i do not understand why so many stout owners are so quick to ditch the factory engine and drivetrain. personally i have a 1962 toyopet stout with a 5R and i live in queensland australia where automotive modification laws are the strictest in the world. mine is a "full" stout with six stud wheels and a front beam axle payload 2 ton 1800kg (Gross 6900LBS), the land cruiser diff centre and diff lock fit straight in and the factory gearbox "transmission" were also used in dyna trucks and coaster buses, many here have had 5 litre V8's mounted to them without issues. the factory 2R, 3R, 5R, and 12R where all factory build to handle LPG "propane" with strong full cast iron engines that put a standard chev engine to shame and are factory low compression and are built STOUT enough factory to handle some insane levels of boost. the 5R in my stout has done over 900,000 kilometres-560,000 miles and has only ever had the head gasket replaced, what other 2000cc has 97-109hp and is able to bolt straight in.
My desicion to rid of the stock engine is not to do with power...I build supras, and custom fuel injected/boost setups, I coulda built the 3r for a ton of power. My concern is for parts. the 3r is a rare bird here in the US, and finding replacement/maintenance parts are hard and expensive. Had a couple cool ideas for engines (stock supra engine, its sitting on the floor of my shop) 4age built outta a drift rolla... easy small 4cyl woulda swapped great. But the 20r won because makes decent power, decent aftermarket, good gas mileage, ridiculously abundant here and maintenance/repair parts are a dime a dozen. Plus the 20/22r is probably one of toyotas most natorious and bullet proof engine and is known as the solid powerplant of the toyota trucks. So I got to keep a stock appearance/feel while updating technology, power and efficiency.
Bump. Would like to move this outta the collection and put time into my real street car. Cash money really talks and this is a great chance to get a fantastic piece of yota history with a bunch of the big retrofitting/ comfort mods done to it. I have a trailer and truck so I can help with transportation of it if interested before I sort out the steering.(this also makes me a little more flexible on price cause once the power rack and pinion goes in and its fully functioning comfortable driving I will be less apt to go down on price)
Damn your jeep! I'm still trying to sell my '89, would love to have this just don't think it'll happen unfortunately
man it kills me the only time I see one of these for sale theyre always 2k miles away....It would have been scooped up when you first posted it if you were closer than 1day 14hrs
Well just know that this it probably wont go anywhere too fast. Tho I would like to make some room and have a some decent bucks to throw at some holset turbo goodies/water meth kit for my supra, I will not just sell the truck for any lowball offer. Im not that desperate to move it and I will not sell it for less than what I know it is worth. I will finish it and drive it before I let that happen. So it will most likely still be here when you get your truck sold...and possibly will have the power rack and pinion swap done and be daily driveable.
Random question...but what type of mirrors are those? I'm looking for those style for my stout. Thanks,
came on the truck. No clue where to get them from. Truck is still available...looking to get the r and p swap done soon but life is busy. Willing to sell it without the swap for less...
Idk. I have been hot and cold on selling this...but I think I will wait till after I do the power R&P swap. I already have all the stuff for it so I think id rather do it and then sell the truck so I can get a few more bucks to fund my single turbo 1uz supra build. But Im open to offers as it sits so PM me.
Get that R&P done and I'm on the list, as of right now I have cash money waiting unless I come across something I just can't pass up. I really like your truck.
Sounds good man. Im working on getting it done and you are first on the list. Hopefully I can get it done here within the next couple weeks, life is slowin down a bit so I will have more time to work on it.
yes... Once I get it driving I will decide if its in a position to drive it there or if I would still rather trailer it. I will try and get it going and drive it daily to test its reliability.
