congrats on the score. pretty neat trucks really. i never really thought the add-on cab looked very well done but its growing on me.

me personally i would get rid of the grandpa shell....... does not look too appealing to the minitruckin eye. second...... slam it as low as practically possible for your driving environment. i would say rock the stock steelie caps for a while...... maybe send the hub caps out to be chromed. i would also look to balance out the truck without the aid of the rear anchor-sized rear bumper and rock the factory rollpan. from there, im sure the body may need some cosmetical attention so i would just go through it to ensure its in in clean shape.

honestly........ thats where i would start but looking at it from your perspective, what are goals you wanna achieve with your truck? what do you want to do with it?

Yeah get rid of the camper shell and slam it. I think that would be sick with stock paint and wheels. I honestly would replace the wheels for for sweet 17s or 18s but slammed on the stocks still have an amazing look to them.

It is gonna stay this way for a while, belonged to a older gentleman who passed away 6 years ago, stayed parked in a garage since, I was told it has 52,129 mile and it looks like it. It is one clean truck!

Wow very clean and nice truck you have got there. so what is it you want to do with? Cause we can all tell you what we will do with it but its your truck and depends on your taste. Some like bags, some like static , some like lifted and some like stock. Its up to you. Any way you go im pretty sure we are going to like it.

    Thanks,
I am cleaning a spot in the garage and going to enjoy as a camping, fishing stocker for now. I have had many thoughts and I dont know if I could bring myself to alter it, it is just to damn clean for a 1981.

Ok the bias ply tire SUCK! Needs shocks. And I would love to replace the camper with a windowless snug top.
    The wish list begins!

Maybe you already know this, so I will make it brief. Just be aware that rear wheels like that are just a dual tire rim, not a true dually axle. You will probably be fine if you never load up the truck, but on the RV's of that vintage the bearings failed, the axle came out of the carrier, and the results were never pretty.

And I am not trying to rain on your parade, that is a fine looking truck and I am more than a little jealous of all that extra cab space! Great find!:waytogo:

Yeah I was looking when I bought it, and realized what they were, It is a 3/4 ton but kinda a crappy wheel set up! I dont plan on loading it up I have a Duramax 2500 for the heavy load.
Was kinda considering doing after market wheels wide single tires in rear. Skinny drags up front lowered down a little. I have not decided a of yet.
    Thanks for the info.

Well nothing like a 300 mile drive to show all the ghost in a truck that has been parked for 6 years!
I have name the truck Poppy after my grandpa because it looks like a grandpas truck!
So here is the breakdown of Poppy after my drive
    1-pin hole in radiator
2_water pump is now raising hell
3- nice oil leak around oil pan and oil pump
4- took 2 fuel filters to make the trip so a boil of the tank is a must and a cleaning of the fuel lines.
5-Carb issues, hopefully will be cured when it can actually get the right amount of fuel! If not then
    a carb rebuild.
6-Rode like a Conestoga wagon! Shocks a must and need other options than a bias ply tire!
7- The seats are a fn back breaker! These just are NOT gonna work if I am to maintain my love
affair with this truck! I need options people!

My wife told me I could not expect Rip Van Winkle to run a marathon right after awaking, which brought it all it perspective.
So that being said i got a little work ahead before Poppy and I hit the open road again.

Ok, got some time in the shop today. Pulled the tank, pulled the radiator, drop them off at the radiator shop.
Got it up on the jack stands, now I am feeling the need to convert to a 350 V8 4x4 dually. Crazy I know but it looks cool all jack up on the jack stands! To boot would make a cool tow rig for the rock crawler!

that thing is sweet.. would be a bad ass tow rig.. i want to see some pics of the inside of that cab, in the back. was this sent out to a conversion company like the trekker/trailblazers? with it so clean and original i would only upgrade stuff that needs replaced.. (i say that but i can never stick to that plan)

the only thing that i would probably go overboard on with the body is the back window.. if there was a more square option or something to help streamline that back area.. but probably more work than wanted or should be done to such an un-molested original. i almost think the camper would grow on me matching the style of the rest of the truck!lol :waytogo:
