Ok so my truck has the 22re. And over the course of the past few years I have noticed an oil leak coming from the distributor area of the block. I had power steering on it so I figured that it was coming from the pump. But now that I have removed it its still there. Could the leak be coming from the distributor? Is there a gasket there. Thanks
    Patrick

The distributor has an Oring on the shaft where it slides into the head, quite possible it could be leaking.

Yah its your dizzy leakin, mine does too, same with front crank seal and rear main seal its fun! Not really.

The seal around your distrubutor is actually very simple to replace, atleast one of the easier ones.

Easy fix swap that oring, line up dist. and your good. If your not sure mark it before you take it off so you know where to put it back.

Ok so I dont think its leaking from there. Unfortunaly I think its leaking from the head gasket area around the #2 spark plug (I saw a Trail of oil dripping form that area today) I have already done the head once (replaced). So the lower end has 166k on it. I wonder if i can get away with tightening or replacing the gasket.

clean it all up nice and shiny and wait for it to leak again to find the exact cause. the chances of a head gasket leaking oil to the outside is pretty low.

yeah im positive its not the valve cover. From where its leaking and the coolant leaking out of the same spot too. Plus when when I turn it off and open the hood there is a pressure leaking sound. Also the last time I drove the truck it had a really bad surging idle at stop lights.

    Blown head gasket

Are you mixing oil and water in your radiator? Definitaly sounds like a bad head gasket. You should get on that quickly because that water is siting in your cylinders and rust will start in no time. If there is enough water collecting in there and you start it you could also hydro lock it and then you're screwed. You're going to have to drain your oil and check if it is mixed. So I dont recomend you start it anymore.

Yea man it sound like you need to stop driving it and take a real good look at the timing chain and the headgasket. It's probably time to rebuild or look for a cheap replacement engine.

I havent driven it since thurs, once my parts come from engbldr then I will tear into it. I figure I can see if the gasket works, cause when I did the head and timing chain a few years ago I was in a hurry since it was my only ride. Now i have a second vehicle so I can take my time. If it doesnt work then I will look into rebuilding or a cheap replacement. Im definatly going to look into pulling my hotrod parts off and make it more stockish.

    New head gasket

New head gasket, timing cover set, and exhaust gasket Should be all you'll need. As long as it didnt over heat really bad your head should'nt be warped and you wont need a shave.Easy fix Are you efi or carb? What sort of hot rod parts are you running? Did your water and oil mix?
