ONLY the OE Japanese bed had these .. the "domestic" or "USA" fleetside style did not

heres another one for the books.

I went to fill my tank with some gas as it ran out when messing with things (its still in the garage) and noticed that my filler neck was leaking. Come to find out, its leaking badly. The guy (Jason Sutton of Meridian/Energy, Mississippi) that built my bed cut/welded the metal turndown that comes off the stock gas door pocket and apparently doesn't know wtf he is doing because the welds just let gas gush through. I was hoping it was just the hose wasn't clamped (which it wasn't) but a hose clamp didn't do much of anything. everything is welded in, even the parts with bolt holes.

Now I need to find out either A)how to fix whats there, B)how to afford a fuel cell, or C)how to run some other kind of fuel tank in the bed somewhere.

Your leak issue sounds no fun. Good luck figuring it out.

Yes :/ lol not by choice though anymore haha. I'm going to pull the bed off I guess at some point either this week or this weekend and attack it from that viewpoint. Hopefully I can get it all back together and safe by next week so I can primer it, install my uppers, and finish building my dash.

I'm curious to see more pictures of the build. I'm waiting on my suspension stuff to come in so I can move forward with my complete restore.

Whats the deal with the original bed?

tweed and paint. everywhere. my control arms are a "blurple" type color. purple in shaded areas and blue in direct sunlight. i'll probably end up doing that inside and out one way or another.

    but yes, tweed. everywhere.

Just grind down those welds on the filler neck and re weld them. With it removed from the gas tank of course.

thats the plan once the bed is off. im not gonna do it with it under the truck. i can put out a fire on the bed alone...but not under the truck next to a gas tank haha.

Interior idea sounds awesome. I cant wait to see it. I am an interior person. I think there is so many cool ideas that could be done. I like a exterior 1 color and basic but interior skies the limit. Will look awesome i know it.

im kind of going opposite of that, but not fully. i'm going for an old school build so I want bright crazy graphics on the exterior and a bright interior.

i'm fairly positive it will get this paintjob...

the fuchsia in the pic will be the color of the arms though

i disagree completely, but its also in my garage. pics don't show everything. i also haven't told the full story on forums because i'd rather let his work speak for itself rather than tell everything he didnt do that he said he would. as long as people understand they WILL be redoing things that he has done for them...ill be happy.

warped ass wall in my bed...not a "good job"

and as far as a leaking gas inlet tube, i dont know how anyone can claim he did a good job on that part of the build. that's a deathwish waiting to happen if i hadn't caught it when i did.

Everything I've seen him do has been really nice. And looks top notch. Not saying this is top notch because it obviously isn't his best work. But it seems like it's an easy fix man. Truck looks good btw
