I might be getting some valve flutter or just some random shield or something. it only happens at certain RPMs or certain situations. It did it while driving randomly. I can not get it to do it while sitting. Does anyone of know what this could be or how to fix it?
its a 22re it makes noise LOL!! Would need more specific examples like while accelerating from 2nd into 3rd or while coming to a stop with clutch in.
My first guess is he exhaust shield, i will remove it tomorrow. I am nervous it is something worse. I cant explain when it exactly happens, I would accelerate and let off the throttle a little to hold my speed and it would happen then. It would happen it i drove easy and right before i shift it happens. It seems like at a certain oscillation point it happens. that is why i suspect the heat shield. I sure as hell hope it is the heat shield.
I pulled the heat shield off and it still does it. It happens most often at higher RPMs right before i shift
So we dug into it. It looks like it is a connecting rod bearing. looks like I am doing a motor swap soon.
Plastiguage sounds like it might not be that bad. Pull bearings out one at a time. Find out which one is bad and check your crank and connecting rod for damage. Run your fingernail north to south to feel for groves. If you find groves on the crank consider engine swap. If connecting rod is damaged change the one. Most likely if this noise just started it wont be bad. If bearing is worn, or scourged plastiguage it and replace with factory bearing of proper size. It will last a long time. Easy fix considering.
Well my dad knows a lot more about engines then I do and he listened to it while i tried to mimic the sound and he said it is coming from the lower part of the engine up front and suggests that is is the connecting rod bearing. We do not know for sure yet but it is our guess. My friend mentioned that it could be a bearing in the head. We are not certain of what the issue is but it sounds like it is coming from inside the engine. It didnt sound like it was at first but now it is more apperent.
