i'm a yota guy but the 3.0 is a crappy motor with a crappy reputation for a reason. The hond civic has proven itself to be reliable and smart. The gas mileage is way better too. If a 4runner was up for sale i'd get a 1st gen (1984-1989) with the removable top and a 22re. better reliability, durability, and well sorry they're just better imo.

If you were going to add cool stuff and spend money on it then I would get the 4 runner. I don't like anything fwd. You would have more fun in the runner offroad then you would in the civic on the road. Unless you took the civic off road.....

Oh yah I'd rally the Honda I'm not a fan of FWD either but I manage a gas station so trust me when I say its gonna hit $4.50 gallon by July I've heard of the 3.0 runner problems all the more reason to swap it but yah

If your looking to get a ride that you are just going to use as a daily and just to get around in, then i would go with the CIVIC. Better MPG. But if your looking for something to play around with and mess with then i would go with the runner. Good luck man with what ever you choose.

I just finished an engine swap into a 3.0 truck out of a decked out 4runner. The truck only has 115k on the body, this was the 3rd engine to go in it in that time. If it wasn't for the truck being a stripped model, having headers and a body lift I'd have called the customer and told him to come pick up the engine and swap it himself.

The 3.slow is the biggest most over engineered pile of **** I've ever had the displeasure of working on. The exhaust crossover blocks access to the upper bellhousing bolts. You can not remove the crossover pipe with the engine still in the rig, just move it around to attempt to remove the bellhousing bolts. The abs unit has to be removed to access the a/c compressor so you can remove it to access the passenger motormount bolts. This was the first 3.slow engine I've worked on and it is the only one that didn't hold true to toyota reliability and ease of access to everything. I hope the engineering group that designed the engine die in a fire.

Get the civic, you'll probably never have to pop the hood other than to change the oil.

Dang 3rd engine on a 115k chassis thats BS even if it wasnt taken care of. Huh well guess the runner is out of the question for this engine/year model anyway. Too bad nobody has a 22re runner in town for sale thats decent. Im gonna gander at the civic today. I also got a kid that wants to trade his 93 B18 swapped civic for my 94 Xcab, so I might just have 2 civics laying around. Make one a rally car hahah

I just bought a 2002 civic SI a month or so ago. Me and my life love it. It is good on gas and such a fun peppy little car. What they want for it if you dont mind me asking?

Because I just woke up and I'm not responsible for anything I do or say till at least 8 am PST.

I tried to change my vote before it went through but obviously failed. Still not as big of a failure as the 3.slow!

Oh and don't getme wrong, I love the runners but their drivetrain can suck eggs! The early 90'shad them available with a 22re which is slow but dead nuts reliable.

I say go with the SI my buddy has the same car and its very comfortable and roomy inside. We are always driving with 4 ppl in the car with no problem.
Plus if you lower it you can out handle most cars on the road ;)

Yeah I paid about 6 grand for mine too. It had 90K miles but had a salvaged title. I looked at the pictures of the car before it was repaired to make sure nothing extreme happened. I think it is a pretty good deal you got there. Go with the Civic you will be happy with it.
