So a few people have recommended that I invest in changing the fan in my truck to an electric one. I've looked in to it on here and other places online. I've mostly found references to a flex-a-lite made fan for 4X4 Toyotas

    http://www.flex-a-lite.com/auto/html/toyota-4x4.html

My question is: Will this fit my truck, I have a 1989 2WD Truck with a 4 cylinder 2.4L engine?

i put a ridgid race fan on my s-10. it pulls so much air i think its pulling the truck sometimes:D . i drive 60 highway miles to work and it didn't affect my mileage(26.5mpg) cost me less than $40 including the spacer, but that was with a discount since my friend works at the speed shop. in the dead of summer (110 degrees plus) the truck will run at 165, even while sitting still in traffic.

the taurus fan is a almost bolt on, you can rig it up with junkyard parts and it can be all said and done for less then $30 from a junkyard.

    highly recomended

Right but wouldnt an electric fan be better considering it would take all that stress off of the engine?

I mean thats the whole point of getting one

it depends on what your looking for bro. if you got the money you should spend it on a well known fan that helps the motor. it does to strain from the motor but at the same time depending on what you get can increase motor temp.

I really like my flex-a-lite black magic. I had a cheap ass fan on before and it worked OK but I could never get the temp switch set quite right. The flex-a-lite comes with everything you need built in and replacement parts are easily available. It took me personally less then a hour to install from the time I opened the box. The black magic has its own shroud, is much quieter and mounts much more secure then universal fans I have used in the past. If you go the black magic route I would recommend you buy it somewhere else then LC ... unless you enjoy paying full retail.

we also have to consider what use your truck goes through. highway, city, stop and go, track, mix, and etc

Thanks for all the input guys, it's been really tough but I think I'm going to go with a flex-a-light black magic fan. I'll be looking around for the best price. So far I've seen it online for about $270.

True, it takes stress off the water pump and supposedly frees up a few horsepower, (I never could tell any difference on mine) but it adds a lot more stress to the alternator.

Would it really be that much more stress of the alternator? and isn't it also possible you can buy lighter pulley's that would help reduces that stress?

I doubt any aftermarket pullies are going to decrease the weight by any significant amount, but on average the fans gonna pull around 15 amps, thats a pretty good load on a stock alt.
