What do you guys think about the 22re with an auto trany behind it. I found a guy selling a wiring harness an ecu for 100 then a guy sellin the trany for 150. What else will need to be changed
Well I know my auto seemed like a turd. May be because I drive the new style tundra everday but my 22re with an auto is super reliable but I'm in the middle of swapping it to the 1uzfe
My 91 extra-cab was orginally an automatic & to be honest it wasnt that slow lol. It actually got up to speed pretty quick, but I wanted a 5-speed so I swapped it over.
Dude, keep the effin 5spd. FCK Autos. maybe if i'm 45yo and have arthritis I'll take an auto. maybe. The A43D's are hydraulic driven and you need to let her warm up in winter just to get 4th gear mileage. The 5spd are MUCH more fun to drive, more interactive, and more efficient. My truck honestly gets to speed pretty well, but not like a rocket. Doesn't feel AWESOME either. I also don't understand how it hasn't broken yet.
I wouldn't swap in a toyota trans but I certainly would swap in a AW4 out of a cherokee. All it takes is to use the A340H bellhousing and torque converter and it bolts right up. You can use the stock computer or pick up a custom stand alone and use paddle shifters.
in my experiences, Toyota automatics have always shifted smoothly, even FWD. get inside a domestic and shifts are a lil stiff...
Yup they are set for comfort. On the side of the a340/aw4 valvebody there is an adjustable valve that turns up the line pressure limit. If you pull the valvebody off you can access the accumulators and put slugs inside the springs to limit the piston movement so there is less cushion. And if you adjust the TV cable all the way out it keeps the line pressure up high so it shifts harder too. My aw4/a340 shifts NOW and very hard. If I wasn't trying to spin 44's with a 4 cylinder they would have a chance to chirp when banging second gear.
oh, Toyota automatics do shift hard when you push it. I'm talking about when you're cruising around. Imports vs Domestic, smoothness is in the import's hands. well, Toyota for now. Honda builds horrible transmissions lol
drive the really new electronic throttle chevys (I work in a dealer for now) they llift the throttle to shift so it feels like shifting a stick with the loss of power for a moment. feels like an average speed, moderately smooth manual shift My old 88 cressida with the A340 was great. I ran the TV (aka kickdown) cable as tight as I could without breaking anything. shifted firm but still very smooth at normal to moderate pedal. WOT chirped 2nd and 3rd. couldn't get close to spinning while stopped.
