im looking to put a 302 in my 91 toyota in about 6 months...was just wanting to know what all has to be done for the swap...any info will be helpfull
Engine and trans out of what? auto or 5 speed? There is room in the engine bay for the motor. Youll need a "dual" or aka rear sump from a fox body. The trans (if a 5 speed) uses a cable operated throw out. Easiest way is a MCleod hydralic throw out bearing, but its like 400 bucks. Cheapest is a pull slave mounted on the trans. Northwestoffroad has conversion motor mounts. They are 200 bucks and supposibly will work. I called them and they said it hasnt been done yet in a 2wd. (as far as they know). The 94-95 mustang, or 96+ explorer use the most compact serpentine setup. IDK about v-belt setups. Depending on what trans you have will determine if you have to cut the firewall. Ill tell you that the T5 bellhousing doesnt fit to nicely in my celica, I had to saw-zall the whole area.
it's going to be a 302 out of a mustang...prolly going to do carb. 5 speed, gonna try to use the mustang tranny to if i can ....just not sure of what type of rear end to use.
im in the process of finishing my 302 swap now i have the motor and tranny mounted i had a buddy make the mounts which are solid no rubber bushings all steel i have a 302 with c4 im going to run the stock rear for now but will upgrade to a 8.8 mustang rear im bagged and bodied and headers won't work on my application and where i have it sitting i had to cut the firewall to move it back. you can look at my thread http://www.toyotaminis.com/forum/build-up-project-threads-25/update-black-widow-2379/
how far did you have to move the firewall back?....so it will drop it with out any cutting as long as you dont slam the truck on the ground.
