If its the shorter shift lever out of a 4x4 thats the transfer case shifter and won't fit in place of the transmission shift lever, not even close.

Once you take out the carpet or roll it back from the fire wall you should find a rubber boot with four screws. Once yoj have that off you will see a metal part at the base of the shifter. Push down and turn 90degrees. Then the lever should pull out. Then goes back the same way you took it out. Watch out for the shifter bushing they are rubber and when i did mine it was in alot of pieces so i replaced it at the same time. Make sure none of it falls in the trans.

I think the cool part would be if this how many people on here will do. This could work though I have never seen the style shifter apart.

    Here ya go Da_Roach,

    [IMG][/IMG]

The 4x4 lever has a flat end that fits into the transfer case shift fork, the tranny one has the ball plus the bushing that goes in the fork, a little loose?? I bet so, the 4x4 lever uses a snap ring to hold it to the shift tower, the tranny one uses either a square plate with 4 bolts to attach to tower or a cup with slots that push down and turn to lock it into the tower.
How they hold it in there is

OK I,m totally confused then, those are both arms (levers) the shift knobs go on in the picture, just the other end from the knob.

Never mind, confusion is over, I figured out what your doing, pulling the outer shift lever housing off thats vulcanized, glued, whatever to the inner rod.
