ok, been working on my retro...really trying to do something different instead of just throwing in the projectors..what do you guys think of this..my first idea is gonna be too hard in that the leds are at an angle on the headlights and too hard to mount perfectly..so i thought i would try the BMW style, with the LED illuminated celis rod

quick mock up just to get an idea..if i went with this i would try and continue the rod so that it looks like it flows into the corner light. it would be two separate rods but would kinda look like one

thanks! just a clean tip on your iron, thin solder and the right amount of heat, never touch the solder to the iron heat the area to be soldered then touch the solder to that point...its so much easier soldering on this kind of copper clad board too...if you solder a lot spend the money on a decent station:waytogo:

I can't really get a good idea of what you got going on there with the head light, but it seems like it will definitely be different.

you can't get this kinda output or cutoff with those ebay projectors or "kits"!!

looking at these pics i need to rotate it slightly to the left, looks like its dropping to the right some

the camera did pick it up but there is a nice deep purple on top of the blue there

this is why im making my own lexan clear lenses, the glass lenses on these ebay headlights greatly distorts the cutoff and color..this pic is with the glass lens on

    and off

What kinda of baord did you use to attach the leds to for your turn signal? Also you need to do a write up...

    yeah on the turn signals...
how did you wire it all up? Did it require any resistors?

yeah you should always use resistors in some cases you dont have to but 99% of the time you do..i also used a 12v voltage regulator..I just wired them in series parallel, 10 strings, 3 LEDs per string wired in series..sorry if that sounds confusing..here is a pic of the first set i did, it came out crappy as you can see, i re-did it with copper clad PCB, but never got pics of the new set..it gives you an idea tho

finally finished my HID retro today..i decided against doing anything fancy or different like i was experimenting with a couple posts back, so just did it basic, but i did paint the shields to give the projector a blue glow at certain angles

got them installed, just need to mount the ballasts and install the wire harness, gona do that tomorrow, got dark on me

so here is how i made the clear lens, just traced out the pattern from one of the headlights on to the lexan, cut it out, then put a bead of silicone on the inside of the headlight ring all the way around
    [IMG]

    NICE N CLEAR!

i then used some weatherstripping i picked up from home depot to put in the grove of the headlight side, the weatherstripping will seal to the lexan, giving me a good seal but not permanent, i can open these up anytime i need to by just removing the trim ring

Yes be sure to always use resistors and use the right values. If you do not they will work for a little but over tiime 1 will burn up at a time until all are gone. The values are pretty easy to figure out with a little basic math.

beautiful beautiful beautiful, inspires me to do so. Think about getting some sort of fan setup to cool the lexan? i'm unsure what the light output would do to it.
