Ok so yesterday I drive to my local grocery store just fine. Its about 2 minutes from my house. I spend at 15 minutes as so in the store. Go out to the truck start it up to let it warm up. It starts up as normal but 15 secs later it dies. Pump the gas pedal, something. So the third time I popped it in 1st gear really quick and get it moving. While it 1st its really jerky, get up to 2nd and 3rd and it straightens out a bit. But at the light by my house it dies when I stopped. Took 5 tries to get it running again. Get to the house and dies in front of my house. Leave it alone. Today go to see if itll do it again and its fine, drove it to work thats about 15 minutes away with no problem. So whats going on? My uncle thinks its bad gas... Sorry for the novel.... PS for the past few days when I push the clutch to shift while slowing down, the engine sounds like its revving up...
its a stock carb...i was thinking it could be the carb also...and have been wanting to replace it with a weber... when I bought it, it had been sitting for a year or two not driven regularly...so my uncle and i just ran some b12 carb cleaner thru and it was running fine...but still hasnt driven but once or twice a week for about 2 months. well now that I know how to drive it, its my daily and has been so for about 2 weeks now. and was running ok until yesterday. idle was rough, but today it smoothed out again. but I will def check my vacuum lines over the weekend. its had a tune-up, new fuel filter, rad flush, and a new pcv valve. Anything else I look at under hood?
no no thats different.Check to make sure the base plate bolts are tight.. If you have the funds you should just replace it with a webber 32/36 asap
i did some reading on the iacv and the symptoms and its everything Ive been experiencing. since the part is more than likely original as everything else on this truck i am just going replace it...
did u put the b12 in the gas tank may have loosened junk in the in the tank sending it up stream to the fuel lines seen it before ..
yea I put b12 in the tank too. I wanted to anyway so I guess that what I'll have to do. Also when I start it up I can hear fluids moving around. Never heard it before but now I can. Also i can find an IACV for an 84 is there another name for it?
If yours is carbed its a fast idle screw located on the side. spring loaded. that pic is not what you have.
yea I didnt think so...drive home from work today, was good but still idling high and higher when I put the clutch like I am too fast to put it in neutral and dumping gas like crazy. This is frustating last week I was just idling rough and now it smoothed out but idling too high.
Try adjusting the idle screw once its warmed up the screw should be pretty sensitive if it fails to make a change might check your vac lines and possibly spray some carb cleaner around the lines and carb base them Oem carbs can be a pain and there associated vacuum lines
throttle double check your throttle cable, linkage and all that.Have some one step on the peddle and watch it make sure its returning all the way and all that good stuff.I highly suspect a big vacuum leak.take a spray like carb cleaner or brake cleaner and spay it around the base and lines and if it revs up then theres the leak..
Ight cool. Thanks. If I get sometime tomorrow ill both of em out and see what happens. Any other aftermarket carbs I can check out or is weber where it's at?
there is also a "diaphram" in the carb housing (i think, i forget what its called, sorry) -might be underneath carb assy. its something fuel related, i've heard these go bad -especially high mileage/age- can cause stalling/hard starting, poor idle. might wanna check it out also. but if ur going the "new carb" route, i dont think u need to worry about this.
thanks for the help guys...Its time for a carb. But good news is that after I replace my carb im gonna have this dope ass truck for a long time.
