Hopefully someone can answer this question. I will need to install a new windshield into my truck and I would really like to get away from the trim pieces (trim is stupid amount of $ to replace all of it from dealer) & adhesive glue . So, I have found 2 website (below) that sell the rubber gasket. My only question, does this completely get rid of the trim pieces? I have emailed the one here in the US and I am waiting for a reply, but thought I would post up on here also incase someone has already done this.

    US Site - http://toyheadauto.com/Toyota_truck_parts_list.html
    Part - Front Windshield Weatherstrip Toyota Truck, Hilux, RN50, RN5#, RN6#, RN7#, LN5#, LN6#, VZN6#, 1983 to 1988 (Without the groove the insert trim)

    AUS Site - http://www.4x4world.com.au/shopping/product_details.modal.php?product_id=5996

I do think the AUS site is cheaper even with shipping but I haven't 100% confirmed this yet.

    Thanks for the help!

Awesome, i sure hope so, this wont save me alot of money but if i can install / remove the windshield myself i can prime the truck and then paint it later on..

Let us know what you go with and what you think of it.

This is on my "to-do" list... Been driving with a big crack for 8+ years and my trim is lifting.

Just to update everyone, I just placed the order for the gasket, and the one I ordered does eliminate the trim. Once I receive it I will put it on the truck and take a pic, I wont have glass in for a bit, but I will at least do a pic so people can see it. Once I do reinstall the windshield, I will update with that picture also.

Small update, got the gasket in the mail yesterday. Yes, it does eliminate the trim, so I am very happy about that. I will get it test fitted next week hopefully. I need to clean the old adhesive off first. Also, just to reiterate, I will do a pic now with out the glass and later with the glass installed (but this will be probly a month or so before I buy it due to body work / paint).

Not to sound politically incorrect but i chose a local hispanic owned glass shop to swap out my rear sliding glass for a one piece. They were cheap ($25), fast, they love these old toyota minis and treated my truck like it was their own.

The rear glass is super easy to to install. They made a quick buck. Il probably have local mexican owned shop do my windshield when the time comes. The rubber is shot to hell and cracked

I got a set on ebay from thailand a year ago. I feel dumb for paying almost $200 but it was front and back window gaskets and the weatherstripping around the doors

One thing you may want to keep in mind, is that a bonded windshield with keep you IN the truck in a bad front end crash. The rubber gasket windshields can allow you to be ejected if you aren't wearing your seat-belt.

Getting into a collision without wearing a seat belt and ramming your body, head and neck first into a bonded windshield may not always be a good thing.
