well, i had to run by my moms house because she needed help with a few things and when i getting ready to leave my damn truck wont start.. my first thought was the battery, so we tried to jump it but nothing.. i had this happen to my old Honda and it just needed a new battery.. so i went and bought a new battery and still nothing.. dash lights come on, but i hear a faint clicking.. so my next guess would be the starter.. .. but before i shell out anymore cash i'd like to pinpoint the problem thoughts? suggestions?
not really sure where the relay is on these things.. but i'll check the fuses later tonight.. its still parked at my moms, and its like 110 outside
you might wanna take a hammer and bump your starter with it. Maybe it got stuck somehow. Is everything else working?
Ok..the are fuses under the dash near the lower/left kickpanel & under the hood on the passenger side near the battery. Check the coil & make sure that your getting fire, check the starter & if your truck is a stick shift try to jump start it with the clutch & see if it cranks that way!
Seems everyone has very good points to start out with, Heat plus starters not a good mix. Im guessing if everything else works fine, start roll starting if possible, could be starter froze up with heat pouring on. Most often it starts at the solenoid on the starter, GM products were notorious for this and some Toyotas. If you dont here a clicking sound that relay is frozen. Turn everything else off and listen for it. roll starting will solve it to get it moved and the hammer idea is a time-honored fix. Had to resort to this a few times on my 90' suburban.
well, i'm partially deaf so i have trouble hearing things.. but i'm almost positive i heard a clicking... i'll try jump starting it
Sounds like a starter to me. But I would tap on the starter like ChOpPeD~N~DROPped said. See if you cant get it to bump over.
You would have to take it off and hit it with a sledge hammer to dent it i think You probably wont be able to hit it very hard anyway, there kinda hard to get a good swing at..lol
well i still havent had a chance to get back over there to do anything about it.. hopefully tomorrow night i can get over there..
well, push start jumped it last night and fired right up.. got home and shut it off and tried to restart and nothing.. so i'm assuming the starter is toast.. what you think?
I've posted this before, the Toyota starters have the contacts fail often. You can get the contacts from the dealer for around $10,easy to change & a hell of a lot less than a new starter from the dealer. Also if you have a older Toy,than the starters from the dealer are rebuilds, not new!!
definately true!! My contact points went out aswell and I had the same symptom....... original starter itself still works great though
