Hoping someone can help here. I pulled the motor out of my 77 2wd and have it back to the point where it's running. However, I have a couple electrical issues that were not there before i pulled the motor.

First issue: the gas gauge no longer works. I'm not sure why.

Second issue, the charge light is on, but i know im getting good output from the alternator: i'm getting 14.42V at the battery with the truck running.

Third issue: the temp gauge isnt working. The wire to the sender on the motor is definitely attached though. I double checked connectivity with a continuity test.

Last issue: lights in the rear of the truck are all jacked up. when you hit the brake, it illuminates the turn signal on the drivers side. Hazards illuminate both the turn signal lights and the brake lights. I'm assuming i have a bad ground back there somewhere.

Any help anyone can give me on any of this would be greatly appreciated.

my guess is somethings are shorted out if you didn't disrupt any wiring on the individual components. Something like the fuel gauge is pretty much direct to the cluster. Tail light wiring is also pretty much "plug and play" from under the truck to the rear, so all your problems probably may be just under the hood.

Damn bro i wish i could help out. I feel for ya. As far as the tail lights go, did you even touch them besides unplugging them in the engine bay? that sounds crazy, Im pulling my engine out in the next day or two. Ill pm you if i run into any similar probs when i put her back in.

rewiring them, essentially. I found a bad ground in the back and figured while I was back there I would replace all the wiring that looked crappy.

it seems like the charge light and fuel gauge not working go hand in hand... anyone know the cause of these problems?
