Ok can it be done and if so what is being used? Can any tacoma coilovers or suspension parts be transfered or done? Has anyone on here or have pictures of a front coilover set-up?

Also can rack and pinion be done to these trucks with the trucks that have a gear box from the factory?

Im wanting to convert mine over for better handling and safety as torsion and gear box steering sucks for this kind of power and weight.

    Thanks,
    Rodney

yea its been done. Alot compare the work to bagging your truck. Mainly cuz u do away with most of the factory stuff. I think it was on this forum they talked about it a while back and people said they could use QA1 coilovers i d member if theyre from a camaro? or just a universal. Either way u gotta make it fit on your truck.

the rack n pinion steering u can use but you would have to find something of the same width or close to the same width as your truck

Ok yeah I vagely remember the thread that had something to do with the camaro shocks. I know that you would have to have the same length or something close for a rack & pinion but where do you mount the thing?

Im in the middle of doing that now... The Camaro stuff only works on the Tacomas. On pretacos since we have torsion bars you need to fab a upper mount (ie shock eyebolt mount). Also you need new upper control arms so it can clear the coilover itself. I ordered mine form Twisted Minis (Seth)

Not my truck but here's a pic of how mine will be set up...

I was going the bagging route but most tracks and autox events don't allow bagged cars/trucks to run.

Those must be DJM lower arms in the pic. I have a pair and they look exactly like that.
You could buy the upper bracket to weld on and the upper tacoma arms from Toyota. But it would probably cost a lot either way. The mounting holes are narrower on the pre taco 2wd (for the upper arm).

basically you just make mounts for the coilovers.

Rodney, do you think 240sx rack and pinion steering MIGHT work?

So will the coilovers handle that much better than the torsions? I know they would give you adjustability....

Not sure. i'd have to look into it as well as the mk3 supra steering rack.

Handling is night and day. much better in the corners, stopping, and acceleration.

Just get some shockwave bags I think those would handle better than a coilover

WOAH! My truck cost less then that lol. thats too pricey for me but thanks for the link. I'd rather go to the junkyard and grab some coilovers and make it work. I dont mind hard labor if it pays off.

Don't think it will work. The supra rack is 63-65 inches and our 89-95 truck is somewhere in the 58-59. So you would need to shorten the connecting rods/ends(not sure the technical name). I believe the 240sx is the closes you'll get in width to our trucks.
