I want to either rebuild my stock carb on my 83 toyota pickup but i dnt know if i should rebuild it or go with a weber carb?
Concur!!!! I just spent two weeks dealing with stock! Before conversion: AND, after I spent forever trying to get my rebuild to run right and finally gave up the chase and follwed the advice of others! Put that weber on and in less than a day I had it running like a champ! Granted mine is a 20R, I wouldn't imagine that the 22R is much different. For my truck it got rid of ALL but one vacumm line, which makes tunning and running a piece of cake!!! good luck, go with Weber dude! Best advise I ever followed here on TM! cheers!
Damn thanx guys do u guys know where I can get an affordable weber? Sux cuz im going to college and dont have a lot of money
My vote is for also for a Weber 32/36. Have you tried this place yet? Weber Carburetors for Toyota Cars and Trucks
Manual Choke you have a Pull Lever inside the cab of your truck that you have to pull to open the choke, whereas a Automatic Choke does it for you. On my carb, the automatic choke gets stuck so my idle is high until I rev it.
Because I heard that supposably the electric choke is controlled by an ecu and manual it just open by itself
Electric chokes run of a thermo coil no ecu involved . I would go with a weber 32/36 your choice if u want a manual or electric . I prefer electric but either way a inprovment over the worn factory one
Thanx bro so if I get manual what does it hook up with or is it left alone? What about an electric choke where would I connect it too?
I found a redline weber on ebay that manufactured in spain with an european electric choke is that good? Or is it cheap? http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=251044522661&index=0&nav=SEARCH&nid=24021570496
It runs WAY better than stock! MUCH easier to adjust and tune!!!! Install it per the instructions and then make sure that the initial adjustments are set right... By hand, screw in the idle mixture screw (do NOT tighten, just in til it stops) and then back it out 1.5 turns. The idle set screw is similar, back it out til it just BARELY touches the barrel mechanisms and screw back in 2 turns. Make SURE the vacumm lines are disconnected to the distributor and all other vacumm ports are capped off (this is a must or you will not get it to run right). Get it to start and idle as low as possible and then set your timing, this is your mechanical timing. Once you have 8 deg BTDC or whatever you like for fuel economy closer to 0 the better MPG you get but lose performance (power), adjust your RPM to idle (mine is around 900) with the idle adjustment screw. Once that is all done, connect the vacumm back up to the distirbuter and you are done. (provided nothing else is going on like vacumm leaks or too much or too little fuel pressure).... good luck and let us know how it goes!!! Cheers!
Thanx bro and I am ganna have to do research on the adjusting since I dont know much about carbs. And my stock carb idles high around 1800rpm
