My 71 has the original am radio along with a separate 8 track player. I don't want to put in a new radio because I would like to keep the interior original. I am wondering if anyone has ideas as to how one could install an aux port without putting in a new stereo or hear some ideas of stereo upgrades without hurting the original look. Thanks
Here's a couple of pics of what I did to my '75. The Nice Radio is back, behind the Fake Front. Don't use magnets to hold the cover on, 'might cause problems with the circiutry or a flash drive/etc. A thin sliver of Velcro works Great. I used silicon sealer to glue all the knobs/buttons in place. I was thinking: have a coil or 2 of tape coming out of the unit, with a cassette hanging. Now that would discourage a thief, uh? Or maybe put a second radio in the glove box?
Another option...tho it wont be your factoy toyota radio...is looking into the vintage looking radios but they have small auxilary port and new quality sound. Have seen them in LMC Truck for my dads ford, but know they make them universally. Give you 70's vintage look with new car technology...might be an option
Guys with muscle cars or old vintage cars leave in the original and install a separate unit in the glove box or make some brackets and mount them under the dash. Not sure if this is what you're looking for.
these guys rebuild your origional radio to be a modern, fm mp3 compatible. From the outside, it looks the same. Vintage Auto Radio Services
