My 93 4 cyl truck has developed a strange quirk lately. It has odd thing where sometimes, I start it and within a second or two it dies again. Giving it gas doesn't help either. Sometimes this can go on for 16 starts or so. The strange thing is it doesn't always do it everytime. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing it?

Sounds like the afm is dropping signal occasionally. Check the air tube between the afm and throttle body for vacuum leaks.

Well I checked the intake tube and all seems sound and tight so I don't think that is the issue. Anyone else have any suggestions?

I would start by checking for vacuum leaks. Then maybe replace fuel filter. Yours may be clogged. Then check all ignition components plugs, wires, cap, rotor. Thats where i would start. And of none of those help let us know.

Well since it doesn't do it 100% of the time, and it does eventually start. I don't think it is a ingnition problem. I did start to wonder about fuel delivery though. I think it might just be a clogged fuel filter. I bought one today, so I will replace it tomorrow and see if it goes away. I will report what happens.

Well I changed the fuel filter but it seemed that wasn't the problem. Anyone new ideas on what it could be?

wiggle some connectors, check the igniter and make sure it's grounded.

Well I have now replaced the fuel filter and the fuel pump and it still has the problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions. I am running out of ideas. :doah::doah:

Just because the problem in intermitent doesn't mean that its not a ground or ignition problem. I would do like was said before and check the wiring over pretty good. You'd be amazed how much frustration can be caused by a single frayed wire when your trying to diagnose a problem,

I looked around for frayed wires but haven't found any yet. I will look again. A mechanic friend of mine said it might be the EFI relay or something.

My truck is having the same issue... It'll start then stall a second later... I replaced the efi relay but nothing... Read the it might be the open cercit relay but I jumped the fuel pump and I can hear it running but still stalls after I try to start... My next guess is fuel pressure regulator but I'm not sure! I got it to run off starter fluid but it seems it isn't getting gas I figure is its anything other then a gas issue it wouldn't run off starter fluid =\
