hey i was just wondering does it matter what size the wires are? i looked on autozone and they said that 5mm diameter would fit, while JCwhitney said that 8mm would. i have a 94 yota.
also does anyone know of anywhere i can get a red wire set for a good price?

the size isnt too important if you are running the stock coil, the higher the size the more insulation the wire has. This is to prevent the super high voltage spark setups from arcing out of the wire to ground somewhere and also to prevent crazy radio noises. 5mm or 8mm is fine.

sorry cant help ya on the red part

I used to run Accel wires that were red. They were the universal kinds that you cut and crimp the distributor ends yourself. I now have been running some MSD wires for over 15 yrs now. I may have modded the wire holders to fit the thicker wires, I don't remember.

get a set of oem(denso) or ngk wires. I run ngk's and have been doing so for years with good results. 8mm as far as i know.

Tayler makes extremly nice spark plug wires for the price. Otherwise, the NGK blue ones are pretty sweet too.

Just came across this thread. I'm in the same boat as the OP as it seems. I'm looking for red wires. I've checked Summit for the MSD wires but the application chart stops at '92. Would I still be able to use these, even though I have a '94?

Okay, I'm FINALLY getting around to installing my MSD wires and the distributor cap isn't having it. Is there a specific distributor cap (part #) you guys have used to switch over to the MSD plug wires.

Try using the stock wire boot on the new wires. Cap probably has too thick of a post stud for the new boots.

I run the taylor wires on mine. 8.2mm i think. Come in black, blue and red I think. about 35 bucks on summitracing.com They are already cut to fit. I run the 22RE set on my 20r. Same wire layout and sizes, just a different application theyre for. I dont have a part number handy.

I'm going to see if they have a different style cap. The one I have on there right now has the little prongs for the factory style wires and I don't want to over-stretch the boots on the MSD wires. Thanks a lot guys.

Okay, FINALLY getting ready to try and install these wires after all this time and i was just wondering...Can you use the distributor cap from the 89 - 92 on the 93 - 95? It would help me out so much if it is possible.
