So my floor pans are rusted out and need to be replaced. What I came up with so far was to either fabricate it out of aluminum and rivit it in or out of sheet metal and weld it in, seeing if anyone's got any better ideas or options would be good to
Depends on your goals. Personally I'm one to do it right the first time - weld metal floor patches in. It'll just come back/get worse if you don't remove and seal off the bad steel, so if you're going through all that prep work already you may as well weld.
Not to mention that you don't want carbon monoxide to be able to come in if you have any kind of exhaust leak. Be sure and seal it up good.
I'm debating the same thing with me 78. What about the guys that are patching small holes with old license plates? Mine is ratty and that would match the look.
I've seen pictures of floor pans made completely of license plates. If you do plans on going that route I could send you some Hawaii plates to add in the mix
I suppose a license plate will work if you're gonna surface mount it and want it visible for that type of look. Personally, I like having carpet installed in my trucks and no obstructions when I slide my foot around in the cab floor.
