Ok so my clutch is starting to go out and it looks like imma have to replace it soon cuz its starting to slip a little more everyday. Im gettin my taxes soon so imma go with an exedy organic clutch kit and lcengineering 9lb flywheel because I've always wanted to put one in and Im already gonna have it apart. My question is how hard is it to replace these? Are there any problems you guys have encountered while doing it? What else should I replace while im doing this? Any tips/tricks or general advice? Thanks guys any help/info would be awesome! Here's a list of what I know im gonna do so far: Clutch pressure plate Slave cylinder t/o bearing Pilot bearing alignment tool flywheel am I missing something?
I did my clutch Sachs when I did the rebuild - not hard at all. Lining up the TO bearin arm and spring was the toughest i think. I just had the fly resurfaced by recommendation of the shop teach. the weight stores energy and reducing this, may rev up quicker, its really laggy on day to day driving.
i had the 9lb fly on my truck from lce as well. loved the throttle response but it WILL take some getting used to. if you want a real good combination and have the money for it, do the lce short shifter as well as for swapping it out, its not hard at all. if you have air tools, it becomes that much easier. pull the tranny, pull all the bolts on the clutch, drop clutch, unzip all the bolts holding the flywheel from there. **key point here, if you notice you have a slow or residual oil coming from the rear main seal, this would be a very oportune time to change it and prevent having to go back in there later** since you will have a new clutch kit come with the pilot bearing, you wont need to bother pulling the old one out of the old flywheel. one less step. install the new fly, zip the bolts on, install the new clutch in with the provided alignment tool, install all bolts, line the tranny back up, install, and presto! good luck man, you know if you run into any issues you can come in here and ask away
One other thing, dont lay it on your chest! Rent a dolly or atleast borrow someones jack if you dont have 2.
Forgive my ignorance, but does the 22r have a rear main seal? I have done trannies, clutch's, fly's on honda's, the rear main seals were bad about leaking so we usually would change them while the fly was off and it was easily accessible.
Oh yeah, you woulda remembered next clutch job ya did after 50+ under my belt I,m starting to get the hang of it
yea...... i seen that and pictured it in my head and went.... "oh yea...." yea.... i got some ways to go before i memorize every nut, bolt, and assembly process on these trucks. i have FSM's i "try" to rarely reference to
I have a 13lbs LC flywheel and the clutch. That with a 58 trans and LC short shifter it was a nice gain off the line, but it does take a minute to get used to. Revs nice and quick. Could also be a good idea to get new flywheel bolts and replace the front and rear trans seals. Cheap insurance so you don't have to go back in there.
GET NEW BOLTS. IIRC toyota says replace the flywheel bolts whenever they're removed. ARP makes aftermarket ones for toyotas (I used ones designated for a 7M from driftmotion.com) Flywheel-crankshaft pressure plate-flywheel
Thanks for all the info guys so I guess ill also replace the trans seals and get some new flywheel bolts. Any info on replacing the trans seals though??
this is the clutch i was talking about, NOTE: This is a very aggressive clutch, it is not recommended for street use this one is the one you want http://www.lceperformance.com/Metallic-Clutch-Kit-22R-RE-89-95-2wd-89-92-4wd-p/1053063.htm
