I have seen the cheap replacement heads all over lately. 250 dollars give or take including the cam and gaskets. Has anyone tried one? When I got my truck from the Bakersfield Mensa group they had taken the head off a couple times thinking it was the head gasket that was blown or cracked. They figured out it was the cam chain cover that had a hole in it so they JB Welded it but luckily they still couldnt get it started. I picked up one of the cover kits off ebay and the quality was surprisingly not too bad. Worked fine, but now the valve seals are going bad so Im wondering if I should just get the whole assembly slap it on then work the stock head a little, I cant have the truck down for more than a day since I need it to make the 110 mile each way commute.
Engnbldr.Com Not the absolute best quality on the market but his parts are good and the prices are great.
i wouldnt trust the "chinese cracker jack pot-cast" heads. if u plan to run the truck for a few more years and have it bullet-proof, invest in a good head. chop suey fooey one. ---u get what u pay for--- the good heads i believe are cast in spain or italy. a little better quality cast and aluminum. not prone to being porous or warping. thicker coolant passages. just my 2..
It's only a few bucks more for a quality casting from LC. Mind you, you don't get a cam with it, but the rockers should be replaced with the cam, so a head that only comes with a cam isn't that great of a deal, you still should get new rockers or use the old cam.
