So I have the air box components replaced, next I have to remove the pump & flush, remove the bumper & grill & replace the condenser & drier. Drive to the shop & fit the hose, have crimped, evac. the system, test for leaks, & charge!! Three week window to next show ,another a week off that!! Than two weeks to the next & a long some what hot drive to it!!
So I got the new condenser & drier in place( yes drier is sealed), & all the new hoses & fittings in place . They will come off once again to get crimped. Also ordered the vacuum pump & gauges to evac & charge my self ,as the shop can't do within my time frame!! Will add dye @ the charge cycle so if a leak can find it! Will post on how this goes!!
Good idea. I just picked up an 84 x cab 4x4 and in the bed is everything but the compressor to convert my truck to a/c. I looked around and didn't see a "normal" build thread for your truck just a bunch of project threads. Do you have a link to a main build location?
I never did a build page, through I shot photo's of every step of the way,I just posted up what I did ,or working on as I go!
Just saw a Datsun 220? Its from the 70's guy had a/c used copper lines for the high and low side lines and polished them it looked sharp told my girl I'm doing that, love the look of all that copper and aluminum no more soft lines
Copper tube is not high psi rated,is for water !! The high PSI side of AC is +200 psi!! May be a problem! I also read some where that copper tube is pron to brake from fatigue!! Just what I know !
So got got the hoses crimped & covered with the sleeving, & applied vacuum ( used a air driven tool I got on line, worked very well), than added dye & charged ! System is up & running again,no leaks all is good!
So the only problem that poped up was a noise, that ended up being the AC clutch was draging a little with the unit turned off! Air gap is supposed to be .015 -.026 pulled the outer piece off ( had to make a tool to hold it),cleaned, & made a washer 1mm thicker, which gave me .018. Will test drive a long distance tomorrow!!
Your project turned out great like always. The attention to detail is always top notch. Now you and the will enjoy the truck together.
Thanks,& yes Kathy said she would ride in it again! Will see if the noise is gone, if not I'll put the washer that I took out back in with the one I made, that will give a thickness of 3mm & I'll measure the air gap again!
