After installing power locks via my alarm install, I'm looking into power windows. I've noticed that the power regulators with motors should fit like a glove in place of the old manual regulator. What tips are out there for this install? What kind of switch setup is there? I imagine I could homebrew my own if necessary. Just looking for suggestions.
I have done, After market, aftermarket with factory parts, and full factory swap. I had factory swap on my old truck silver toy and that took more time to install since there are more wires to go with that set up. The after market kit are straight forward to install. Just buy a good quality kit or find a donor truck to get the parts from. The factory setup you need all the door lock mechanism and elevator to get it to work properly. its more time consuming but its worth it in the end.
Why would I need the door lock mechanism? I had my eyes on the factory scissor lift setup like this: Basically the way I figure it, that is the same scissor life the manual trucks have except for the built in motor. That should bolt right in. Then it's a matter of the two wires pigtailing out of the motor. It is the same concept as the power locks where the two wires require an alternating +- to go up or down. In this case I figured all you would need is a six pin momentary rocker switch to do what you need. I wrote up a very crude diagram on how this would work: Here are six pin momentary rocker switches in real life: No relays needed. In theory that should work.
You only need it if you want a ture factory set up, if not just get power window elevators and wire them up. Factory set up: driver key door unlocks one door with one turn 1st, twice and unlocks the other door too, locks 2 doors. Passenger side locks both doors and unlocks both doors. If key is left in ignition, doors will not lock, if lock is pressed on the door or via aftermarket alarm. I had this set up on my old truck. Also windows will remain powered on with key removed in ignition for 1 minute after ignition is closed. Unless a door is opened it will then kill power. I did a full swap on my silver truck, my current truck came from factory with everything.
Ahh, I see. Thank you for the thorough explanation. The factory setup is pretty nice and interesting. Since I have my locks set to my alarm I may just do my own thing and wire it like I described above. toy_spd, thank you for your help. I really appreciate it.
Hi I'm new here I was wndering I took all the mechanism for auto window out of a Toyota 4 runner to put in my 22re truck door I'm wondering when I'm putting it back together in mines is there any holes for it already in the door or will I have to just fix as I go and will the fender of a 4 runner fit my truck and also the bumper
I have 4 Runner doors with the power locks & windows, I wanted one piece glass & the power windows,I removed the power locks as I have shave doors! The stock switches incorporate timers & the switches are pone to fail & very hard to find! I changed all the switches to ones from Electric Life, & they are back lighted, they have a power window kit also!
I cut the factory switch base to except the bezel that came with the new switches & molded in with body filler. The switches fit into it from the top & can be removed if needed!
Also because you are eliminating a lot of the resistance ( the timers ,etc.) the windows move a little faster!!
There is no cheap & you get what you pay for! Getting from wreckers is not always cheap & remember it is used old stuff! Get a kit from Electric Life ,there products are good , call them!
@toy_spd - I was looking to do a full swap from a 91 4runner which would include power windows, locks power windows. Would you say this would be an easy swap??? do you have any recommendations? I currently have manual everything on my yota mince the tranny.
I used the whole 4-Runner doors as wanted one piece side glass! But yes all the internal stuff should go right in, make sure you get the power relays, switches & the circuit breakers that are at the fuse box at the passenger side kick panel! I took the whole fuse box!
