Is there anyway to stop an oil leakage without removing the pan and the gasket? I've tightened the bolts and it's doing nothing. My latest paycheck can't even pay my insurance and I still have to drive 30 miles round-trip to my school 4 days a week. Any ideas?

Are you sure it's the pan gasket? The oil pump casings are prone to cracking with age, check that !!

This will make me sound like a newbie, but do you have any pix of where that is? I am still very green when it comes to working on cars, my dad never did that with me when I was a kid.:(

is it a four or six? if it is a oil pan leak the dealer uses a tube of black silicone.

I've got some of that left over from my fuel pump job. Would speading that around the exterior of the oil pan work as a temporary fix until I can get it fixed for real?

also be sure to check the front oil pump seal, itsa easy fix with the right tools and itll give the appearance of a leaky oil pan gasket when it rolls all over to the back of the oil pan . . .

Oil pump is located right behind the crank pulley. The front seal is there too.

Dead sure... the mechanic's a friend of my uncle, so he did the job cheap for me. However, he did inspect the timing chain and said it looked good. I requested that it be changed, but hardly anyone listens to me outside of ths site.

Eventually when I have the cash, I'll make sure that it gets replaced.

check the back side of the motor, sometimes mechanics in a hurry will not set the half moons in the back correctly and they will leak, also check the torque of the valve cover acorn nuts, they should be snug not loose or tight just a happy medium.

also the fan clutch is a easy fix, stp oil stabilizer is the fix, remove the phillips screws, fill the hole inside, spin the fan clutch to get the oil to drop, once the mount has a resonable amount of resistance reassemble it and your done, be carefull when you are removing the top from the bottom to keep the oring in its groove, because it a bitch to get it back in.

Valve cover's okay, checked that 2 days ago... Are you talking about those black rubber things in the head?

So, disassemble it, put that stuff in, and just follow the rest? I'll try that when I can afford to do so, crappy job, insanely low pay... hard to pay insurance and gas.

yeah they have a small skirt that can get pinched, and I always put a small dab of black silicone on but sides of those half moons as well.

Both half moons are fine, no oil leakage there, just in the lower region of the 22RE. So, for trying to seal the oil pan with the black silicon, do I just clean the exterior of it and fill in around the crease? Once I get a new job, I'll fix it for real, like my dashpot, but I need to save the oil I've got.

How much do you guys think Jiffy Lube will charge to fix it? I'm almost, well, I'm overdue for an oil change anyway...

Just an opinion, but i would not let "Jiffy Lube" fix anything....
I hardly trust places like that with an oil change, let alone fixing anything.

Yeah, but I can't afford to keep losing oil. I will NEVER let EZ Lube near my truck again. Problem after problem came after those idiots... and the state wants to shut 'em all down.
