My gas gauge doesnt work?

    I have a 83 toyota pickup and my gas gauge doesnt work does any1 know what it can be? It doesnt have a mechanical gas pump it has an electric one

    could be the sending unit... u have an aftermarket fuel pump???

    Gas guage

    my does the same thing does yours lift some times but then comes back down? if it does its probable a ground or too much or less resistance.

    any problem with the charging light being on?

    My charge light is always on but sometimes it gets dimmer, plus my battery is fine

    your gas tank needs a better ground ,, thats what was bad with mine !!

    Most likely it is the sending unit (still available from Toyota) but could be a bad ground on the sender / tank or the condenser on the Y-R wire circuit going to the fuel level gauge.

    It reads da actual gas now I room da floater well da sending unit and da stock dat da floater is attached to was bent and out of wer the empty and full metal tabs wer but I just bent it back in plz nd it's back to normal and good thing it got fixed cuz da Toyota dealer said dat dey dnt carry dat part nymore thanx tho guys :)

    I have a 78 and I have the same problem the gas meter and my temp doesn't work any ideas? I did just change my fuel pump the first day I got it because it did nt start so my be I put something back on wrong????
    Any ideas? Its inly been 6up months and my fuel pump went out last night again

    Oh i wouldnt know bout your situation I fixed mine like I explained before I would like to help you bro but I dont have an answer :brickknock:

    Its cool bro thanks. Im gonna take the tank down tomorrow when to see why the fuel pump isn't work then ill go over everything. Ill let you know how it goes

    For sure bro and yeah the sending unit however its called on mine were the floater is at was bent and once I bent it back to its shape my gas gauge started to work fine

    Having the same issue. My fuel and temp gauge stopped working after i reinstalled a fuel pump. Very weird.
    My fuses are fine...
    At least the damn truck drives now.
    Does the sending unit have its own ground as the fuel pump?
    I will have to check that as it was mentioned
    But still odd to effect the temp gauge

    Mine is a '78 20r
