My 1978 Toyota Pickup: long box. 20R, currently automatic. Needs an electric fuel pump in the tank.

Has a cool story, which I do enjoy. It came from New Mexico. The original owner stole money from the current owner down there, and once busted, he offered him the truck to make up some of it. Back in 1993 the current owner drove it to our area and then it sat in behind a garage until the current owner asked his son to sell it. A buddy saw it and had to pass, but I could not let it go.

I really love the style of this vintage, and I have plans for it. Goals are to wash the body good and clear is how it is to leave the patina on it. It is not rusted, but the paint is just tired from the New Mexico sun. it needs new tires, so I will either powdercoat the current steel wheels and toss on some new white walls, snap on the chrome center caps, OR toss on some wheels with lower profile tires. I also want to remove the rear bumper and toss a VW duckbill on the front. I will eventually put it on air and tossing a 7mgte with a w58 in it (I have both already). I do want to clean up the interior, remove the door mirrors and put fender mirrors on it.

The truck will be delivered to me on Thursday.

    For now, my first part:

Ebay. There are actually two others on there, but this one was a bit more reasonable and I liked the fact all of the old packing materials were there and in good shape.

    Agreed.

I held off and then this one popped up. Was $85 including shipping.

Going slow, but have a few things out of the way. Picked up a mint set of tires off of craigslist and a new replacement fuel pump.

    It is now registered too.

Tomorrow I will be pulling the wheels off, and taking them to get mounted (existing tires are dry rotted horribly). Possibly get the pump in too (I have a bunch of other projects underway, who knows).

removed the front bumper today. Charging the battery and will remove the rear bumper tomorrow.

Fun times. She is in my garage up on jack stands, while the wheels are getting sandblasted this week.

I worked on the fuel pump, but did not get it done. Need to figure out the power feed to the pump (need a wiring diagram...) since there are wires for the sending unit AND the fuel pump in the split loom.

Did figure out that the oil pressure switch is not allowing power out of the fuel pump relay (could be because I did not turn it over to build any oil pressure) but for a temp work around found online, unplugging the oil pressure switch allows the fuel pump relay to pass power out. Although, that energizes two other wires, and i am not sure which is feeding the pump. If I knew (wire diagram...) I would just run a new wire back to the new pump.

    More on this soon.

The wheel center caps will be powder coated tomorrow or tuesday.

A buddy and I removed the front grill assembly and the front lower valence. The grills are cleaned and masked off so I can paint them black. Removing the valence clears the way to paint the lower subframe that shows through the holes in the valence.

    More soon..

FWIW, once I removed the cap, I realized it was a longbed, not the short box I mentioned in my first post. I cannot edit it, so...

    Anyway, center caps are done:

We got the front end back on the truck, fuel pump wired AND priming the fuel system. She runs now!!!!!

So some photos of the stuff back together:

I grinding the subframe that you can see through the lower metal valance:

    Painted it:

Put a lip on the lower metal valance, and then put everything on the front back together:

Then finalized the wheels with the powder coated caps, after I painted the T logo with gloss black:

Everything visual is pretty much done for now:

Saved a bunch if parts off of a 75 today. Will be my back up parts. Both side windows and regulators, door panels and such, all dash switches/cluster/heater, and much more. Also grabbed the clutch pedal and master so I have an OEM setup once I put the W58 in.

    Just got back, night!!

Next up: Where is the horn supposed to be mounted? TIA!

My cuz stopped by to check it out today.
