    Lowering a 1975 Hilux help

Hi guys, new to this site and first post as well :)

I have an old 1975 Toyota Hilux which isn't anything special by any means, lots of rust, just ticked over 200K km's and she's a bit tired

I've been wanting to lower it for a while now and I'm in need of some help for the front... I don't want to spend too much money on it, but I obviously need to buy some springs. I don't want it too low (still want it legal here in Australia...) but what springs do you guys use?? I thought about cutting the springs but on other forums people bite ya head for suggesting it

I have had a bit of look on the forum but can't seem to find anything as of yet.

    Thanks guys
    -Corey

This is an old pic so it does look a bit different now

Mighty max springs have been discussed plenty, Not sure what you call them down under. Only thing is they go really low.

    WELCOME TO TM

Thanks for the reply Jetas :)

So I'm guessing you advise against cutting springs?

I actually just cut the springs on mine the other day(im still not driving it though)

I just put that option out there in case you wanted a different route. Honestly though, cutting springs isnt as bad as heating them. So chop them all you want and fck what anyone says, its your truck.

Yeah... There is nothing wrong with cutting springs as long as you do it correctly.

Stock Mighty Max springs will get you down 2-2.5 inches, Dodge D50 springs will put you down 2.5-3 inches, BelTech Mighty Max springs will put you down about 4.5-5.5 inches.

The D50 springs would work a treat then.

Mine had about a 3" drop total on cut springs and blocks. You have to remove your upper bump stop block on front and should cut down the bump stop in back unless you want to ride on it.

This is the best pic I have on my phone, I think there is a side **** in my thread though.

Been a while hahaha FINALLY down low.

Few weeks back made some 4" lowering blocks for the rear, rolling around ass dragging for a while hah

Over the past week my brother and I have been replacing all the steering tie rod ends and we've lowered the front. Easiest way to get springs out was to remove the LCA... ended up cutting 1.5 coils off, achieving roughly a 2" drop. All bumpstops have been removed.

Front is slightly higher than back, but only by about 5mm. Hardly noticeable, so pretty much 650mm ground to guard all round.

    Cheers

nooooo! the look is so so so SO horrible! I can't stand all those bro-trucks they look terrible. I can't believe it's actually a "look" now. I remember when I was a kid in San Diego it started with all the trucks people would install long-travel and other lift kits on the front first, then either run out of money for the rear or simply couldn't figure out how to match the front suspension - which usually involves invading the bed space for shock towers/susp. parts.

Corza - truck looks great! I need to do the same on my truck now!
