I have always admired these but never thought that I could find some so I haven't looked. Today while strolling through the local u-pull-it I ran across a 1986 SR5 Turbo and all the wheels were intact. I gave 120.00 for the set with the tires. They are in pretty good shape for 26 year old wheels, but I may see if I can polish them up or have them powder coated for when i repaint my Cool Ole Yota' I will need 2 center caps as they are cracked.

Those rims are gold back here. You could quadruple your money with that price.
When I got my 85 SR5 it came with a nice set. Me and the wife spent a couple hours of sanding and polished them up pretty good.
Since then I got a lot of offers for my set. Hard to let go though sice they look sexy on my truck.

    Shoot

I appreciate your response. Maybe you can help me with this. I have only cleaned the rims so far and the front ones seem to have some spots or like the surface has peeled. It is not too noticeable from a distance but up close you can see it. Is the finish on these painted ? Polished alum ? or some other kind of coating ? What is the best way for me to make them look real good again ?

    Thanks,

I dont know much about these wheels, other then they are getting super super hard to find ! I think it would be a bad idea to powder coat them. Leave them original, well polishing is cool. But I think it would be a waste to paint them or something

If they are peeling or clipping than it is a coating.
And powder coating would be great. You can get it in a chrome like finish also! Though I'm sure they would need to be media blasted first!

It seems the clear coat is still on. I used paint remover to remove clear then sanding/polishing.
Sanding and polishing takes time and lots of it. I used 220 then 600 then 1500 then polished.
You're gonna have to remove all those ridges/lines that are visible in order to get a real polished look.
You'll see it once you remove the clear.

    Good Luck

I got a set of those wheels too at the local pick a part. Not sure how I feel about them yet. Mine only had 3 caps.

I personally didn't like the original caps when the rims are polished thats why I got rid of them.

I think my caps are just as bad as yours, but I would like to keep them together with the wheels.

@ six seven one. Did you use a machine or hand sand the wheels. How did you get the tight spots ?
    Any other tips.
