Some good points TA, once ya start its hard to keep it from snowballing, although I never built mine specifically as, or intended them to be show rigs, I put as much time and effort into doing it, doing the work myself and trying to keep things to a do it yourself budget.
About 8 years ago I was asked to attend a local car show, thought they were nuts but went ahead and did it, surprisingly I had a lot of interest and lookers and even won 1st place in my class, that kinda sparked the interest and pushed me to go to another to see if they gave me the award out of pity or what :D Since then I have done numerous shows, gotten the respect from a lot of the muscle car/hot rod guys, its all in the details:rolleyes: been invited to a invitational indoor show, and have picked up a few trophies (23 to date) So yeah, you can go crazy and sink some funds into these projects, I also go the collector car insurance route, had to have them appraised for value but at least if something happens I,m hopefully covered.

yea, 40k is a bit over-exaggerating. I mean if you rich, then it like buying candy. I had my paint and body work done by a friend, i know its not gonna be supper nice paint job, but its gonna look good and way better than what it had, i think it came up to 2,000 better than in town quotes like 3,000$-5,000$ for regular paint job + all the shaving he did and welding :eyecrazy:

I spent about $3,000 on just my stereo system back when I showed my truck (97-99)......and that didn't include installation because I installed it all myself. That's why I communicate by message boards nowadays. Don't try and talk to me on the phone I can't hear you! lol

On the other hand, I bought my '89 in November '99 for $1,400. Aside from routine maintenance, I have only replaced the head. I've put well over 100k miles on it and it's still running strong.

My truck is by no means a show only truck,I drive it @ lest a few times a week. And not to say it is a daily, for insurance reasons, but it makes store runs all the time!
I built it too drive it,too shows, & any where in between!

I just like well built vehicles. I hate ghetto mini trucks that bounce 5 times when you hit a bump because they didn't bother to relocate new shocks.

The same goes for any shiny painted muscle car that is a rust bucket underneath or "import tuners" with the ebay special brand coilovers and intake

the botom line is, you get what you pay for.
