I have a 1978 SR5 pickup and the gas gauge just quit.
The fuel pump is running so I assume the sending unit has gone bad.
Can the sending unit be replaced separately from the fuel pump?
And is it likely the gas gauge has gone bad?
    Thanks much,
    Chuck

If it's in the tank they should be separate, follow the gas line back to see .

I have reason to believe the sender in my '76 is going bad. If theres less than a half tank, the gauge shows all the way empty. But it will jump back to full when i fill it up.

It's the sender. Same happened with mine. I was unable to find a replacement so just installed a universal.
