Hey fellas. This weekend I will be replacing the fuel pump and fuel filter on my 91 pickup V6. I'm a bit of a novice so I was wondering If you guys could assist me through steps. Is this something I can easily do on my own? Should I get a buddy to help me? Any kind of help would be amazing. :headbang: Thanks!

If you have the basic tools it can be easily handled the pump will be the more challenging part but it's pretty straight forward

Oh ok. So would it be easier to just pull the bed off? Theres still half a tank of gas. Would I need to drain it?

IF i did do it that way, would I have to counter balance the weight of the bed?

If i did it with the bed still on, how would i do it? Step by step. If someone wouldn't mind doing a small write up, that would help me a **** load

I believe my 89 has a drain in the bottom of the tank. Did they change this with the EFI trucks? If not, just drain the gas out and your set. If not, (And I haven't removed the bed yet, so I don't know from experience) I would imagine 4 or 5 strong friends could lift the bed off the truck pretty easily. It would just be a matter of unbolting and buying the beer. Make sure you spray the bolts with a good penetrating lube before trying to loosen them. It'll go much easier that way.

Finally coming around to tackling this project tomorrow. Is the fuel filter in the same place as it is on the 4cyls? Passenger side lower fire wall?

Not sure what you mean by counter balance. You gotta pull of the tail light lenses disconect and run the wire harness thru the corners of the bed( they stay with the chasis). Also the fuel fill hose. pull that thru. I think thats it but you can have a friend help to lift and pivot the bed around and rest it on the casis or just prop it up to give you enough room if you dont want to pull it all the way off. no counter balancing needed.

No the truck will be just fune with the bed off, doesnt effect anything at all if you not driving it.

Hey guys. So I got the new fuel filter in the mail and it looks a bit off. Is this how the aftermarket one looks? Since the factory one is a but connector and the aftermarket one has pos and neg posts, do I have to splice the other end to make two connectors? One for the positive and one for the negative? And also the screen end of the pump, doesn't match up correctly with the rubber grommet that suppose to hold it in place. I went to O'reilly auto parts to do a parts comparison and theyre aftermarket one looked exactly the same. Any help would be dope. Thanks!

Hey brother that is actually the fuel pump and it looks a lot bigger. This is for your 91 ya? First make sure it mounts to the arm and drop it in the tank to see if that pickup filter is to bulky.(filter can be swaped with the old one) I say cut your harness with enough slack to splice back if needed and put some eyes on it without the plastic coating. I checked out one of my spares and its like your new one. I'll throw up a pic just waiting for it to download off my phone.
