engine swap for 12r??

    my 76 hilux with a 12r in it has just decided to crap itself so i was wonderin if anyone knows about swapping an 18r or 22r into it? could i use the original gearbox or would everything have to be swapped? any help would be much appreciated. im in australia by the way! hence the 12r in a 76 model

    from what i understand, the 12R, 18R, 20R, and 22R are within the same engine family so bellhousings should all bolt in similar to them. i remember reading this somewhere but you may want to soilidly confirm this with someone else.

    i read that the letter following the numbers identifies the series of motors or "family" of motors.

    SD yota is correct, the R's are able to interchange with the bellhousings

    are you in the states? should have come with a 20r if your in the states.

    its a austrialia based site. better luck finding somebody with a 12r.


    i know that 18 and up R series motors are interchangable (read will bolt to exsisting tranny) but ive never seen a 12r...
