Engine Cleaning Tips

    Alright, the 88 i just bought is pretty bad under the hood, dusty, dirt dobbers nest, you name it...its lived under there, I had no trouble cleaning my 350 Silverado motor, due to the large size of the engine compartment, but the lil yota has a lot going on under there...Im asking for some tips on what to cover, how to go about cleaning it, what to stay away from, pretty much anything to help me clean er up! Thanks folks

    Cover the distrbutor cap and coil. Maybe the alt if you using one pressure washer.

    I gots no truck, for now
    a can of engine degreaser and a garden hose go a LOOOOOng way! just wrap a baggie over the distributor.. engine will look new again

    Thanks guys the water hose trick worked wonders on my Chevy so I understand that trick.

    I got some L44 degreaser at home that I mix w water bout half an half spray on and use a soft brush and hose off them use armerall and that will make it look new again

    Easyoff oven cleaner

    I use Easyoff oven cleaner on mine. Be carefull it will strip paint and skin. I also use it to clean the carbon buildup an my head an valves.

    Bathroom cleaner scrubbing bubbles.... soak for 20 mins and spray off with water.

    I would got to a carwash bring a spray bottle with some purple power & pressure washer soap packs and any grease cleaner you can find, then mix it together in a spray bottle then spray it on the engine let it soak the pressurenwash it all off make sure you cover the parts,one time I use aluma bright and I messes up my alternator,[​IMG]

    91 pickup layin' frame, and a 99 mazda b2500 (not a toyota)
    dont forget to use a leaf blower to dry it off after.
