How difficult is it to remove the dash in these old trucks? I'm in the middle of cleaning up the cab and figured I should also remove the dash to check the condition behind it.

Can it be removed with the steering column in place?

if it's anything like the 79-83, the column will be disconnected from the dash, but not removed from the vehicle.

to remove the dash you remove the top peice between the windshield and the pad then remove the pad by wiggling it up and down while gently pulling on it then there are rivets across the top.

you can't just unbolt the dash in these year trucks. there is 2 parts, the upper and the lower. the lower has a bolt on each side of the dash, the upper is welded into the cab near the window. the two are riveted together underneath where the dash pad goes. i just cut mine out since i'm doing a fiberglass 61 faclon wagon dash.

How was the dash removal? Did you end up tearing into it?

Is this the same procedure for the 79-83 trucks? I'm trying to remove just the pad to re-upholster it.
