So the only thing I don't like about my '80 pickup is the lack of a clock... So what are my options? Just an adhesive back battery powered clock? Was there a factory clock for this gen?
You can buy any 12V aftermarket clock and mount it about anywhere. Or if you have GPS, most will show you the time. Last, you could upgrade your in dash radio to one with LED display. The battery stick-on clocks are junk. They have no backlight so at night you can't even see the numbers.
On the subject of clocks - anyone ever come across a square aftermarket clock? I've seen round but haven't found a square one yet. On the 73-78 trucks we've got that egr light knockout in the dash next to the radio, it's around 2" square I think. Clock would be a good addition there.
I don't know what the knockout is actually for, but on my 75 truck it's got an EGR light in the middle of it. some trucks I've seen have nothing there. The knockout is a perforated square on all of the pics I've seen in other trucks, so easily removed for something. I've only seen people use this spot for mounting round gauges but they either don't fill the corners of the square or they had to oversize it. I know you can buy Toyota pickup clock from the 80s/90s trucks which looks pretty close in size, but these mount on the back side of the dash and the tabs are almost flush with the face. Would have to figure out mounting it - maybe glue the tabs to the back of the dash? It might sit flush then, but there's no trim ring to cover the seam.
After my last post i went to my parts pile and pulled the clock from my old 89. After it being out in the elements for the last 5+ years the damn clock still works
I was hoping to find something that's period correct... Somethings analog... With the old Yota symbol in the middle.

Clock or tachometer were optional in 1980, one or the other they went in the same place, I got the tachometer with the full gauge set.Ammeter and oil were in a console under the heater.Note red dash lights and gauges too.AC was controlled by a thermostatic switch, not a regular on /off switch.
The factory clock has a symbol at the top and the name looks like Jeco at the bottom of the clock. This one looks close. https://www.amazon.com/Auto-Meter-2...rd_wg=NvZOr&psc=1&refRID=33VN3A23B369YZRV5BAA
I may have the stock one out of my 1988, I'll be moving the truck out of the garage today to wet sand out the new paint work I did,I'll look for it! If I have it it's yours ,free.
The big baller clock. might not be a perfect fit. https://www.jegs.com/i/Classic+Inst...lmMKqJcK9Eb-Mcmk2O7OmsQ22F-TyNWRoCb4kQAvD_BwE
I think the speedometer is close to the same price. The other small gauges in that series are about 200. It must have an intricate movement system.
