Check eng. light won't turn on when key is ON

    1988 2wd 22r carb. Live in CA. Went to get truck smog checked and the guy failed me because the check engine light won't turn on when the key is in the ON position. I pulled apart the cluster and checked the bulb. It's good. Checked the fuse, it's good. My question is, has anyone had this problem. I just got this truck so I don't know if it's even suppose to come on or not. I looked through the wiring diagram and it shows only a circuit for the check engine light on EFI models. Any help or advise would be great thanks.

    That tech sounds like a retard....

    Its carbureted. There shouldn't be a light.

    Unless you have a 22re with efi?

    Have you checked the BULB?
