Just a guess here, I'm thinking voltage regulator. I had a 79 LUV truck (minus torsion bars, bump stops, with 4 inch blocks on mono leaves) which had an isuzu motor in it. I had the same situation occur, I replaced the battery, replaced the generator, and finally nailed down the voltage regulator as the culprit.

the alt kinda "squeazes" on to the mounting bracket, pivot it and lift at the same time and it will work itself off.

why did you take it off?

did you get it tested? most stores cant test the voltage regulator out of the car for free.
